Review: Chew #45

Here’s the thing about Chew, it’s kind of the Seinfeld of comics. Let me explain. It doesn’t really change month to month, but it still manages to be incredible. You kind of know what to expect and really you’re just popping in to be entertaining, but you’re not expecting the world to dramatically change or anything. Chew-#45--12.3.14This is the issue in which Chew ceases being like Seinfeld.

If you thought that the last issue was shocking and series changing then this is the cherry on top and the landscape of the series is changed even more. John Layman and Rob Guillory must be working towards their endgame with the series because the bombs dropped are huge. Very few series have the courage to fuck with their winning formula in such a way, but Layman and Guillory have done it two issues in a row.

What happens in the issue? Well… stuff. We see the aftermath of the last issue. There’s a fight and a few important things happen involving the two characters on the front of the cover. I feel shitty even saying that much so I’ll leave it at that.

This is a series that’s firing on all cylinders. Layman and Guillory will definitely be known as one of the top collaborating comic duos for years to come and frankly they continue to show how powerful creative own series can be.

If you’re not reading Chew… then what the hell are you doing with your life?
