So it turns out I gave out the highest score for Doberman #1 on the internet. Was the issue bad or do some reviewers take themselves too seriously? That’s for you to decide. All I know is that I enjoyed the first issue and guess what? I really enjoyed this second issue. I think it is an improvement over the first issue and really gains its footing as a series rather than a ridiculous cop just busting criminals and throwing people out of glass windows. This issue follows Doberano and his return to the police force. Chief Julian finds Doberano in the woods and gets him to follow back home in order to seek revenge on Jasper Kane-the man who is responsible for Hawk’s (Doberman’s former partner) death. I don’t want to give too much away regarding the story because I think anyone who is interested in the series definitely should pick up this issue.
That said, the issue revolves around Doberman (and his new, less-than-capable partner Newton) and his attempt to exact revenge on Jasper Kane. It won’t be as easy as Doberman hopes though-Kane got off his sentence early because he claimed he never meant to fire. According to him, the gun had a faulty trigger and a recall was made on the gun. Now he’s looked at almost like a hero in many people’s eyes. But some know him for the real criminal he is.
There’s more genuinely funny occurrences in this issue; I actually found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion. It’s a dumb, juvenile type of humor (think a few brain cells past Beavis and Butthead) that’s right up my alley and I love it. I can see how it’s not for everyone, but all in all this book is just an old-fashioned romp of a read and I enjoyed my time with it.
