Review: Elfquest: The Final Quest #4

It feels like it has been far too long since the last issue of Elfquest.  I was hoping that with last month’s cliffhanger that we would get some answers in this issue but I feel like I’m starting to get confused with all the Elfquest jargon. That isn’t to say that I didn’t like it but just feeling like there are gaps in the storyline. However, I have faith in Wendy and Richard Pini that things will clear up as the arc continues.  By now I’m sure the duo has plots down to a science. 24777 copy 2So let’s get into the tofu of the matter: Ember in still in the custody of that tyrant Djun but now she has a special visitor. Who is used as example to show what might come to her if she doesn’t comply. Tier is desperate to rescue her and is trying to alleviate some of her fears through their elven bond. All the while in the palace of the high ones, the spirits that power it unify so that they may save the Wolfriders from a death at the hands of sadistic humans.

I am usually always praising everything that is Elfquest but this week just kind of missed the mark for me. I think it is opening up the story though and going to reintroduce forgotten characters but I think I didn’t quite connect with it as I usually do. I’m hoping that the next issue will reignite my enthusiasm for the series.

Every issue continues to impress me with its illustrations but seriously this month has some amazing dreamlike sequences. I love how whimsical the palace is. The pastel palette really brings the elven magic alive. I can why there is so much fan art out there, I don’t think the fandom can get enough of the characters!
