I know The Rocky and Bullwinkle show was before my time but I enjoyed the reruns. I also enjoyed the Mr. Peabody and Sherman segment of the show, but I have a hard time still grasping two things here: Why a movie and why a comic? Sure you can come up with enough history content but it was never part of the story line but a break from what was happening to Rocky and Bullwinkle. Mr. Peabody and Sherman are going thru time as usual starting out on the moon hiding from the astronauts so they can be the first on the moon and not our duo. But they are soon off to a new time period focusing on discovery and invention. First we meet Archimedes and his discovery of density. Sure he needed some help by throwing an elephant in his bath thanks to our duo to make it happened. Now we move on to Newton and dropping apples on his head. Each has their own little puns and quirk where our duo helps out.
Sure these stories are simple and you learn a little bit about history. I also enjoy the simple puns like back in the original show. The art in the book would be the biggest problem I see. It’s more of a new wave style than a classic which I enjoy more, but it does capture the Saturday morning cartoon feel really well and I will give it that much.
This book is a great book to read with kids because you can learn a little about history and some humor thrown in. For nostalgia sake this comic only captures the essence of the original cartoon. It's not a bad comic but it not a game changer either.
