Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress was an early front runner for me. Part Snow Piercer, part Attack on Titan, but all awesome. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress takes place in a steampunk feudal Japan. The world is overrun by zombie esque creators that can only be killed by destroying their magma heart. The catch? Their skin is like rocks making it difficult to kill them. The story starts off in a large city, one of the few remaining human outposts… too bad it’s about to fall. The people that can make it get on a train and get the fuck out, but one man that’s tired of losing figures out a way to stop his infection and becomes a Kabaneri.
The story is great if only for moments like this:
Seriously, though, this show looked great. There were a lot of beautiful shows, and it’s awesome to see so many getting big production money to produce shows this gorgeous. While America turns to all CG shit without texture and detail, Japan seems to be cranking up the production, and it’s stunning.
I want more of this show. I love the mystery surrounding it, and the diverse cast keeps the story from being dull. If you missed this one, binge it, it’s worth it.
