Before Wrath of the Eternal Warrior, I had read all of the previous Eternal Warrior series from Valiant. It was clearly a well-developed character that a lot of people enjoyed, but I never latched on. There wasn’t that one story or moment that I was like, “Yeah, that’s the stuff.” I never saw why everyone else thought this character was cool until Wrath of the Eternal Warrior.
Robert Venditti took this character and pulled back the curtain and said, “here, here’s everything that makes this guy tick, here’s everything he goes through to be reborn to protect the earth.” And it was incredible. The layers that Venditti added to the character and how he just kept adding and adding to the point that I had to stop and ask myself… is Gilad my favorite Valiant character?
This series can fight it out with Ninjak in my mind all day, but one thing is for sure, it’s been one of the best of 2016 and one of Valiant’s best period.
