Review: Quantum & Woody Must Die #2
I’ve seen a good amount of really positive reviews for this issue and I can’t hop on the hype train honestly. I really did enjoy the first issue, but for me this issue fell flat on the comedy and wasn’t all that intriguing story-wise. There is some good character development and a bit of action, but overall this second installment of Quantum & Woody Must Die was average at best. In this issue, Quantum and Woody are still under hypnosis from Dr. Skinner and eventually we get to see that very hypnosis play out. It doesn’t necessarily go as planned, so Skinner has to go back to the drawing board. I really liked the support group of different people who have been screwed over by Quantum and Woody’s antics in the past. They all want to see the brothers go down, and go down hard.
We also see Z-Nyth’s director LyAnn Quell this issue. She’s a very interesting character and will most likely be a powerful force in the rest of this series. I won’t say what she does in this issue that’s so profound, but we’ll just say that she has some experimental drugs that could extend the life of the getaway driver from last issue that Quantum and Woody almost killed. They both have the same goal in mind-you guessed it, the deaths of Quantum and Woody.
We also get to see a bit more into the emotional side of Woody. It’s clear that he’s worried about his brother and it was nice to see a more serious side rather than the goofiness that usually dominates the pages of this book. He doesn’t want to ruin the fact that they’re well liked at the moment since it’s Quantum’s dream. There’s also some action at the end which is visually appealing although overall disappointing as nothing really dire comes as a result of it. The cliffhanger for next issue was pretty much the same one as the first issue just with the addition of a few more people on board to kill the dynamic duo.
I really thought the comedy aspect of this book was very weak especially since I thought the debut issue was pretty humorous. I didn’t laugh or even crack a smile once through this issue. There was even an Ebola reference which at this point is totally irrelevant. Since comedy is a big part of this series, it was really hard for me to enjoy this issue. The art was fantastic like last issue, but that’s not enough for me to pull it out of just being an average book.
Score: 3/5
