The formula of remaking Japanese and other movies from "East" is not uncommon in Hollywood and you can look no further than the upcoming remake of Old Boy for evidence of it currently. But an American movie being remade in Japan? I don't know of that ever happening, but it is now. Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven has been remade starring Ken Watanabe and it looks good.
