This issue is short sweet and simple, but the ramifications of the events are amazing! Also the next chapter in the series is announced which only makes me crave it more. Let’s start with that cover huh? Is that real? Does that happen? I guess you’ll have to read to find out, but that’s pretty crazy stuff if it does. Spoilers ahead just to warn you. In the last issue the Doc barely got to the roommate of the deceased before she tried to kill herself. Now I missed it and I wouldn’t be surprised that others did as well, but they were more than roommates. I’m telling you this because there’s no way I could say anything about this issue at all otherwise. The Doc apparently had this all figured out and so he visits Karen and she walks us through the events that led to her roommates end and what exactly her involvement was in everything. Again, it’s amazing.

I want to rant and rant about the story in this issue. It’s so brilliant and really all it does is explain the mystery that’s been dangled in front of us the entire time. The pieces where mostly there, but I’ll be damned if it didn’t blindside me a little. Hogan writes a hell of a story and though this issue is just a series of conversations, they’re all very interesting and will keep you hooked until the very last page.

Parkhouse should receive as much of the credit for this issue as well. The visuals are fantastic as always, but his artwork and storytelling holds your attention while the mystery is solved and the stage is set for the next chapter. I really enjoy his style and a lot of that comes from his character’s noses. They’re very distinct, but they give each character a real world look that works perfectly with the setting and story. I still enjoy the fact that every conversation is normal even though there’s an alien sitting in the room. Parkhouse makes that normal even though it should be shocking and confusing.

What I enjoyed the most about this series is that you could really see that the world is growing from the last series to this one. The idea is blossoming, but so too is the craft of both creators. It’s a series that is only getting stronger and better with each installment. I can’t wait for the next series and if you missed out on “Suicide Blonde” then make sure to pick it up in trade when it becomes available. It’s definitely something worth reading in one sitting which I will likely go back and do now that the single issues have finished shipping.
