Review: Chris Samnee's Daredevil Artist's Edition
By Chris Tresson
It’s Tuesday night as I’m writing this. I’m usually wrapped up and looking at next week’s review copies by this point in the week… but this week has been diabolical for review-worthy material, so I’ve found myself looking for something different, something that might cheer me up... I think I’ve found it in the form of one of IDW’s Artist's Editions.

Review: Bloodshot U.S.A #3
By Chris Tresson
Hello, Comic Bastards readers. I’m about to review Bloodshot U.S.A #3 from Valiant Entertainment. The last issue wasn’t all that great for me (from what I remember of it), and I really didn’t want to review this one because of that but I thought I’d give it a go anyways. Let’s see what Jeff Lemire and Doug Braithwaite have in store for us with this one… Here we go.

Review: Dead Inside #1
By Chris Tresson
Today, I’m having a look at Dead Inside #1 from John Arcudi, Toni Fejzula, and Dark Horse Comics. For the sake of trying to not spoil this book in the review (and I hate doing this, really), Here’s the information which was given in the solicitation:
The Jail Crimes Division of the Sheriff's Office in Mariposa County investigates crimes committed inside county jails. With a limited number of suspects who can't escape, these are usually easy cases to solve-but not this one. As Detective Linda Caruso gets closer to the heart of the case, she discovers uncomfortable truths about her friends, her job, and herself.

Review: Justice League vs Suicide Squad #1
By Chris Tresson
The Justice League. The Suicide Squad. DC Comic’s biggest and most recognizable super-groups being pitted against each other in a comic book miniseries written by Joshua Williamson and drawn by Jason Fabok… This should be bloody good, right? I’ve already got my name down for a few comic reviews this week but I’m going to end up reading this anyway so I thought I’d review it whilst I was at it. So, Let’s find out what this book is like…

Review: Hook Jaw #1
By Chris Tresson
This book I’m about to review is probably one of the more interesting looking titles available at comic shops this week… This book I'm about to review is Hook Jaw #1 from Titan Comics, written by Si Spurrier with art from Conor Boyle. As far as I’m aware, this series is a reboot of a character from a British comic called Action. A comic which came and went way before my time. I’m not sure of the complete history of the character, but I’m going to go out on a severed limb and say this is the first time the character has had its own series outside of that old weekly comic and I’ve found myself wanting to review it based on the fact that it’s about a shark… and I usually pop my head in on everything Si Spurrier writes. Here we go now…

Review: Shadows on The Grave #1
By Chris Tresson
Today I’m going to be reviewing Richard Corben’s Shadows on The Grave #1, from Dark Horse Comics. I have a lot of love for horror comics and I especially love horror anthologies. I like reading them and I like writing stories for them myself… I’m not claiming to be the biggest fan of Corben’s (I sure I would be if I had the time to read the entirety of his body of work), but I can definitely appreciate his talents and his knack for creating creepy stories. Without further ado, let’s jump into the review…

Review: Moonshine #3
By Chris Tresson
I’m back! And this week I’m ready for my third shot of Moonshine, which is published this week by Image Comics and produced by writer Brian Azzarello and artist Eduardo Risso. I’m not really one for review three straight issues of anything, I get bored quite easily but so far it hasn’t happened with this book. I actually look forward to reading it and if you read my first review of Moonshine you’ll know I’ve had the first three issues in my possession since before the first issue even came out. I’ve held off reading it and I’m semi-glad I did because I would’ve had to wait a couple of months for issue four which would’ve killed me.

Review: FutureQuake Winter 2016
By Chris Tresson
If you have ever been on my website or any of my social media accounts, you will know I am no stranger to FutureQuake Press. I’ve had multiple stories in their books, I sell them in my comic shop and for me, FutureQuake Press titles are the best the British small press has to offer.

Review: Zombie! The Adventure is Yours!
By Chris Tresson
Well, this is a first for me. I’ve chosen to review a choose your own adventure game this week, so not only is it my first time reviewing this type of thing, it’s also my first time playing! Huzzah! This CYOA (abbreviation game on point) is Zombie: The Adventure is Yours, written by Walch, drawn by Jon Lankry and released by IDW. Apparently, it has been translated (by Ivanka Hahnenberger) from another language, too… Seems like they done did a good job of that. Enough of that anyways, let’s get into it.

Review: Planet of Daemons #1
By Chris Tresson
I’ve been looking at this title just sitting on our review list for a couple of weeks now. I wanted someone else to review it because I recently worked with the artist on this book and thought it would be a somewhat biased review of the book. But with the quality of the mainstream comics on offer this week being poor, and this book coming out this week, it’s pretty much forced my hand.

Review: Batman Annual #1
By Chris Tresson
We’re nearing the end of the year and that means it’s annual season in the comic book industry… Since becoming a comic book shop owner, I’ve been paying more attention to annuals (I’ve picked up a fair few this year purely because I can.) Before that all I ever got was Daredevil annuals and Batman annuals.

Review: Bloodshot U.S.A #2
By Chris Tresson
This week sees the release of the second issue of Valiant Entertainment’s Bloodshot U.S.A by Jeff Lemire and Doug Braithwaite. I quite enjoyed the first issue and I’ve been looking forward to seeing where this one would go since the cliffhanger in the last issue. Let’s get going, shall we?

Review: The Goddamned #5
By Chris Tresson
I’m not one for biblical shite. Never been a religious guy and quite frankly, I try to avoid any sort of religious stuff at all costs… But I have been reading Image Comics’ The Goddamned. It’s back from whatever happened to it and I haven’t got a fucking clue where it left off, so I’m just going to stumble through this and pretend like I remember what happened before… Let’s see what Jason Aaron and R.M. Guéra have been up to.

Review: Treves: A Restless Night (One-Shot)
By Chris Tresson
I’m dipping my toes in that big ol’ indie review pool again, this time I’m taking a look at Treves: A Restless Night by writer Tom Ward and artist Luke Parker. Now, I realised something when I decided to read and review this book: There’s a good chance that the majority of you who have come to see what’s been reviewed on Comic Bastards today are going to have absolutely no fucking idea what this book or the story it’s connected to is. I accept that. I’m going to try and bring you up to speed...

Review: Moonshine #2
By Chris Tresson
I’ve been sitting on this issue since even before issue one came out. I got sent the first three issues and I had to make the tough decision of either reading them all in one go or reading and reviewing them as they came out in stores. I opted for the latter after reading issue one because the prospect of going a couple of months to find out what happens in issue four would’ve done my fuckin’ nut in. So this is my review of the second issue of that Brian Azzarello/Eduardo Risso creator-owned joint, Moonshine. Published by Image Comics and out this week at your local comic book shop!

Review: Batman/TMNT Adventures #1
By Chris Tresson
The Batman and The Turtles... Another miniseries featuring these two franchises and a scary crossover for me, as I found the last one to be a complete and utter bag of wank. It was very disappointing to see two things I’ve loved since I was a child treated so badly. I’m hoping this miniseries will do these characters justice, because with characters like these, a crossover event between the two should be absolutely epic…

Review: James Bond: Hammerhead #2
By Chris Tresson
This is my review of the second issue of Dynamite Entertainment’s James Bond: Hammerhead by writer Andy Diggle and artist Luca Casalanguida. I think the second issue of anything is probably the hardest because I think at this point in the series; it’s when you either lock people in for the rest of the ride or see your sales drop due to readers giving up on it. So, if you’re following along or weren’t sure about the first issue, here’s what I thought… And I’m pretty sure I’ve kept it spoiler free. Haaaaa…

Review: Unfollow #13
By Chris Tresson
Unfollow is the best series Vertigo has going right now, hands down. The series is an interesting read and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read previously. Saying that, up until a few weeks ago, I did have a big stack of back issues piled up on my reading table (I don’t call it that because I read at it, it’s just a table covered in books that I haven’t had a chance to read yet.) I've read this series in big chunks at various points but I’ve managed to catch up now, hence me deciding to review the latest issue. So like myself staring down at that reading table o' mine, let’s stop stallin’ and get on with it… Unfollow, issue thirteen. Doin' it.

Review: Tragic Tales of Horrere Presents: Laudanum
By Chris Tresson
In the British small press, there’s a lot of people self-publishing work, but I can probably count on one hand the amount of them actually doing a good job of trying to get their work noticed and actively seeking out new readers… Self-promotion (or ‘The Hustle’ as I like to call it) is key to success in any creative field, but I see a lot of guys and girls putting stuff out, mentioning it once, then sitting back expecting people to just fall over it… If you asked me to name creators doing things right, the lads from Madius Comics would more than likely be the first creators I think of.

Review: Bloodshot U.S.A #1
By Chris Tresson
I’m never going to claim to be the biggest Valiant guy out there, but since Valiant came back, I have been keeping my eye on one character in particular… and that character is Bloodshot. I missed the launch Bloodshot title, I had to hunt down issues of Bloodshot Reborn and I’m pretty much a Valiant noob still. I’m eager to read some more Valiant books but I honestly wouldn’t know where to start… and I already have a pull list that’s ridiculously long. But I guess a little more Bloodshot won’t hurt, right? Let’s see.
