Review: The Dregs #1
By Daniel Vlasaty
The Dregs, from Black Mask Studios, opens on three butchers preparing a specimen for slaughter. Shaving it and sectioning off the cuts and shooting it up full of drugs. The fact that the specimen is human only make the next two pages even more disturbing.

Review: Dead Inside #2
By Chris Tresson
Today I’m looking at the second issue of Dead Inside, the crime comic by John Arcudi and Toni Fejzula from Dark Horse Comics. I liked the first issue and going into this, I was expecting more of the same from this creative team. Here’s what I thought of issue two.

The Golden Age Has Come To An End... Again... Or Something
By Dustin Cabeal
I guess Dynamite didn't like all my comments about their teasers sounding like a company going out of business. That or they were too vague and everyone was like, "what the hell are you talking about?" The gist is that they're relaunching all their Golden Age characters into the modern era. Something they should have already done and have done here and there. But now they're a shared universe so it's different or something. I'll read it, but I'm not like "damn, need a change of pants over here."

Image Announces "Plastic"
By Dustin Cabeal
It's honestly been a while since Image had a title that really caught my attention, but damn... Plastic sounds interesting as fuck. I'll be checking it out for sure.

AfterShock Comics Announces "World Reader"
Press Release
Meet Sarah, an astronaut traveling from dead planet to dead planet, talking to the ghosts of the dead worlds...as she fights to discover the secret that’s killing the universe. But Death doesn't give up its secrets so easily, and as Death hunts her from planet to planet, Sarah struggles to maintain the trust of her crew and her own sanity in the endless ocean of lives. Every world has a story, and if she can find the secret tying them all together, she can save Earth from being the next world to die.

Dynamite Teases Something - Day 2
By Dustin Cabeal
The wording attached to this teaser was, "Nothing Lasts Forever..." which again, sounds more like you're a company is closing or being bought than an event teaser, but hey... none of my business. I'm going to take a swing in the dark and say that Dynamite is doing a shared universe or something... or it's just the most epic teaser for something new and we won't have any context to go with these teasers to make us care. Either way.

Review: Wires and Nerve
By Dustin Cabeal
If you’re going to read Wires and Nerve, know that it’s a follow-up to The Lunar Chronicles and doesn’t stand on its own at all. Sure, you can read Wires and Nerve and get a general idea of the world, but this story is heavy-handed on the references of what came before it.

Review: Sword Art Online: Progressive vol. 1
By Dustin Cabeal
I have never read or watched anything Sword Art Online. I know it’s about people stuck in a virtual world that can’t get out and have several ways that they can die, but that’s about it. I’m not even sure where Progressive fits into the storyline, but I’d guess somewhere after the original series.

Final Image Anniversary Variants Revealed
By Dustin Cabeal
I still don't understand the point of these other than money. In fact, the only reason I'm posting this is because the Monstress/Spawn variant is fucking awesome. I would never buy it or ask you to buy it, but I can appreciate how cool it is. If it were an affordable poster, perhaps I would purchase it then.

Review: Master Keaton vol. 9
By Dustin Cabeal
I’m often sent comics and manga (in particular) well into a story’s run. It’s not something that scares me off, but that doesn’t mean I’m always able to or have the desire to review something that’s well established. I thought that would be the case with Master Keaton.

More Publishers Working Together! Batman/Shadow Crossover Announced
By Dustin Cabeal
I was all about this until I read the creative team. No thanks. Just exhausted of everyone involved. That and unless this means that DC is buying Dynamite, I don't particularly care about crossover anymore... ever.

Review: SP4RX
By Dustin Cabeal
Wren McDonald’s SP4RX is pretty damn cool. I wish I had gotten to it sooner considering it was sent to me early, but I was traveling and every time I opened it my young son thought it was a book for him. None of that is the main reason it took so long. No, the main reason was the news broadcast bubbles on the first page. I’m serious, that’s the main reason.

Image Reprints "Splitting Image" For Anniversary
By Dustin Cabeal
It's really strange to me that Image is acting like any other company on their anniversary and just going for the cash. Variant covers. Reprints. Next they'll have chrome photo trading cards of the founders and a blooper reel. This reprint isn't that offensive, personally I don't even care, it just makes me scratch my head at Image comics and wonder how seriously we can take the publishers next big blast of the industry.
Review: The Rook: Desperate Times
By Dustin Cabeal
The Rook: Desperate Times is inoffensive time travel. It’s a bit like all time traveling stories following a lone man saving time in that it’s entertaining, but lacking anything new. I’m going to paraphrase a quote from the creators of South Park when they were talking about The Simpsons at one point, and they said, “The Simpsons have done everything, so of course anything we do is going to be a bit like The Simpsons.” The idea is that when something compared to something that’s been around longer that there’s going to be some overlap. There’s only so many stories to tell after all. I say that because of course, this feels a lot like Doctor Who and even a large dash of Quantum Leap. That doesn’t necessarily make The Rook bad, but yes it’s a far cry from an original concept.

Top Cow Launches New Magdalena Series
By Dustin Cabeal
I've always enjoyed Top Cow's supernatural universe. My interest was lost around the time of Artifacts which was supposed to reinvirgorate the line and instead caused its demise. I'll be curious to see what they can come up with in Magdalena.

Dynamite Teases Something - Day 1
By Dustin Cabeal
Sigh... seriously comic industry. Ya gotta come up with better marketing. Don't, I repeat, don't take a page out of Marvel's marketing book because that's the worst one to copy. I'll admit, my heart skipped a beat reading the words "All thing end...", but probably not for the right reason. I was thinking Dynamite was getting bought or some shit, but instead... comic event. Yay, just what we need, another publisher doing a comic event... during the summer. See ya tomorrow for the next teaser.
The Old Guard from Rucka and Fernandez
Press Release
Eisner-winning writer Greg Rucka (LAZARUS, BLACK MAGICK, Wonder Woman) and critically acclaimed artist Leandro Fernandez (THE DISCIPLINE, Deadpool, Punisher: MAX) join forces for the all-new, action-packed, era-spanning series THE OLD GUARD, set to launch this February 2017.

Review: Slayer: Repentless #1
By Chris Tresson
Musicians and bands having their own comic books is nothing new in this industry. Bands having good comics, though? That's quite rare (see the latest KISS comic series. It's dog shit.) This one... I had a good feeling about this one.
I’m about to review the first issue of Slayer: Repentless, a three issue mini-series published by Dark Horse Comics. It’s a series based around the videos of thrash metal gods Slayer which were directed by BJ McDonnell, for songs from the album of the same name.
