Review: Suicide Squad #44

By Cat Wyatt

Suicide Squad #44 is here, and with is the conclusion of the latest plot arc. Last we saw Deadshot and Batman were teaming up in an attempt to save Deadshot’s daughter from the hands of Kobra. The rest of the Suicide Squad team hasn’t been making it easy, naturally. It’s thanks to them that Deadshot and Batman are currently free falling what has to be at least fifty feet into water… so there’s that.

Suicide Squad #43 continues the plot a few issues ago, where Deadshot’s daughter has been kidnapped by Kobra. Thanks to Batman, Deadshot actually has a chance to do something about it and save her, but that’s assuming that these two unlikely allies can get along long enough to get there in time…

Suicide Squad #42 continues the Constriction plot started in the previous issue. Deadshot’s daughter has been kidnapped by Kobra, and Batman is the only one that seems willing to stick his neck out and help the man go out and rescue her. It’s a bit more complicated than that, but isn’t it always?

With the last of the Hack plot being wrapped up in the last issue, it’s time for Suicide Squad to take on a new plot. This plot is looks like it’s going to be different than the usual Suicide Squad stories, and I have high hope for how it’s going to go. Okay, if I'm fair at least part of that hope is coming from the seriously badass cover for this issue (seriously, look at it!) but I’m okay with that.

Review: Suicide Squad #40

By Cat Wyatt

Issue 40 of Suicide Squad brings about the conclusion to the latest plotline they’ve been working on lately. The Wall is no longer holding Washington D.C. hostage, and instead is heading directly towards the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Only Waller knows the reason why the Wall would do this, and it isn’t good.

Of course, thanks to the beauty of different perspectives in storytelling, we know exactly what the Wall is up to. He’s going to kill Waller’s daughter, Coretta. Or at least, he’s going to try. Coretta’s wonderful brothers step up and try to protect her, which is quite lovely (makes you wonder how they could ever be Waller’s children, doesn’t it?).

Review: Suicide Squad #39

By Cat Wyatt

Issue 39 of Suicide Squad was left off with the Wall (America’s fantastic new replacement for the Suicide Squad) going rogue, hacking into the Pentagon, and somehow taking every single person in Washington D.C. hostage via possession. Oh, and the Wall will only allow the Suicide Squad team in, anybody else enters the area and every person under his control dies. Now, I have theories about what’s going on here, but it’ll be interesting to see how this all goes down.

Review: Suicide Squad #38

By Cat Wyatt

Things have been pretty messy for the Suicide Squad the last few issues. First Hack started attacking Belle Rive as well as the inmates themselves (to figure out which one had killed her, of course), and then The Wall (run by none other than Rick Flag) used that excuse to invade the prison and take control. The last issue concluded with him knocking the whole team out (nothing new to them, of course), so who knows what’s happening now.

Review: Suicide Squad #37

By Cat Wyatt

The last couple of issues for Suicide Squad have been focused on Hack and her quest for vengeance. This issue is no different. She still doesn’t know who killed her, or why, and she’s still ticked off about that. When we last saw Hack (along with most of the Suicide Squad team) Waller had just blown the servers, hoping it would kill Hack (and knowing it may kill the team); sounds about par for the course for her.

Review: Suicide Squad #36

You’ll probably remember that in issue #35 of Suicide Squad it was revealed that Hack was back (I didn’t mean to rhyme there, I swear), but not quite in the flesh. She remembers that she was murdered, but not knowing who did it she’s decided to take out her anger and frustration on all of Belle Reve, Waller, and the Task Force X; which leads us to issue #36, which picks up her witch hunt where it left off.

Review: Suicide Squad #35

Suicide Squad #35 brings the walls down around our characters heads, as well as a blast from the past. It’s a Waller heavy episode (aren’t all of the doom and gloom ones about her though?) so the fans out there that don’t like her may not be happy with this issue, but then again, if seeing Waller get outmaneuvered is something you’ve been daydreaming about…read on.

Review: Suicide Squad #34

Issue 34 is still focused on poor Juan Soria. If you remember from last time, Juan is one of those background type characters who are always in the wrong place at the wrong time. The problem is he knows it, and he’s in the worst place of all; he’s an extra on a Suicide Squad mission. He’s already witnessed most of the other (unnamed) backup team members die (and pretty horrifically I might add), so things aren’t looking too good for him at the moment.

Review: Suicide Squad #33

By Cat Wyatt

Apparently, this week was the week that DC decided to change things up with their plots (see my review for Wonder Woman). I love that they’re trying some new things, and this issue is no exception. In issue #33 of Suicide Squad, the perspective is not from one of the antiheroes we’re used to, but rather an unknown Task Force X recruit named Juan Soria.

The first two panels of issue 32 are really sweet, but also a complete change of pace. It’s a cute little scene with June (Enchantress) teaching Waylon (Killer Croc) how to read. Considering the events that have been happening in Suicide Squad lately, it seems oddly out of place (though I did love that little moment there). This leads me to be very concerned about Waylon’s state by the end of this issue (have to keep reminding myself about the lack of permanency in comic deaths).

Review: Suicide Squad #31

By Cat Wyatt

After a month of anxiously waiting to see what was going to happen to half of the Suicide Squad (the half trapped on the moon, that is), we’re finally given our answer! Considering the point they left us off at last issue, they really didn’t have much of a choice but to pick up right where they left off (well, they could have done something different, but I’d advise against stressing out your fans). To recap: Rick Flag Sr. is possessed by the Red Wave, and likely has been partially under its control for a while, Boomerang, Katana, and Croc have also fallen under his (its?) thumb. The only one on the moon with control over their own body is Harley. So not exactly a good position to be in.

Review: Suicide Squad #30

Issue #30 picks up right where the last one left off; with half of the Suicide Squad team stuck on the moon base fighting Red Wave, and the other half off in Nevada (specific location unknown) recovering from their own fight. Needless to say, things aren’t looking so hot for our beloved heroes and anti-heroes.

The Secret History of Task Force X Part Three picks up from where we left off in issue #28, with our anti-heroes heading towards the moon. In a surprisingly Meta twist, it turns out that there’s a vault under the Apollo Moon Landing site which is where dangerous extraterrestrials are stored. All I can say is that I certainly hope Waller isn’t in charge of keeping them in place! We all know what she would do with them, given half a chance.

Review: Justice League vs Suicide Squad #1

By Chris Tresson

The Justice League. The Suicide Squad. DC Comic’s biggest and most recognizable super-groups being pitted against each other in a comic book miniseries written by Joshua Williamson and drawn by Jason Fabok… This should be bloody good, right? I’ve already got my name down for a few comic reviews this week but I’m going to end up reading this anyway so I thought I’d review it whilst I was at it. So, Let’s find out what this book is like…
