Review: Tank Girl: Gold #2

By Mike Badilla

Tank Girl: Gold is the first TG series I've ever read, which I know is blasphemy among certain comic book circles. I own some of the trades, I got the gist of it before, but I just never gave it the time of day. So glad I did now, as this is one title that I look forward to. Last issue saw the resurrection of Sub Girl as well as the discovery of billions of dollars worth of gold on the sub. Other stuff happened, including that dingo (name forgotten) getting some action that caused his..... member to get swollen. STD? I guess. The whole this is weird, but in a fun way. Don't read into it so much.

Review: Warhammer 40,000 #1

By Laramie Martinez

Earlier this year I got really into games. I’m not talking about Shoots and Ladders, or Candyland, I’m talking about the big names like Chess, Mah Jong, and of course Go. My interest peaked around the same time that AlphaGo defeated Lee Sedol and I will admit the results discouraged me from learning more about these classics. I realized that perfect information games or games where all the information can be seen on the board were actually limited. I wanted something that would mimic a tactical real life battle, and strangely it was this need for something more realistic that took me to probably one of the most outrageous and unrealistic wargames on the market, Warhammer 40k.

Review: Peepland #1

By Mike Badilla

Anytime I see a book description selling itself as "noir," I'm instantly more interested. Probably one of my favorite genres. That's not to say, however, that there isn't a metric ton of garbage out there labeled in this way. This book, in my opinion, is far from garbage. Dirty? Yes. Trash? No. Let's start from the very beginning; I love the cover. It looks exactly like those pulp noir novels, even down to the classic looking "Hard Case Crime" banner at the top. This looks like a book that would have been on a spinner rack 40 or so years ago, which hooked me instantly. Not only the classic look but the art on the cover is fantastic and makes you feel like you're right there in grimy [enter your favorite grimy city] on a rainy night in the shady part of town. Let's get to the story.

CBFMP 255: Even I Have My Limits

It's NYCC time, which used to be a happy time... now it's just a con I used to know (fuck you Justin for getting that song stuck in my head forever!). How are you? I ask that because that's how Warren Ellis writes his newsletters and he's in charge of WildStorm now! That's at the end, though, we start with Power Rangers and Logan. Lion Forge makes big moves and there's other actual comic news to come from NYCC. I know. Comic news on a comic podcast, what will we think of next?

Review: Tank Girl: Gold #1

By Mike Badilla

We start off with the explanation that Sub-Girl has died, then came back from the dead but was not really 100%, then died again 15 minutes ago. Now we're on her sub, a bunch of Nazi gold in tow, and suddenly under attack by some kind of armed helicopter. Keep in mind this is issue 1, people. Was there a Tank Girl: Silver or something that came before that would give more backstory? No idea. The remaining girls don't know how to pilot the sub and suddenly, when it seems all is lost, Booga (some kind of kangaroo man) and another of the girls swoop in on a jet and destroy the chopper, all the while the girls on the sub accidentally electrocute Sub-Girls body, which brings her back to life, albeit with some memory loss.

Review: Assassin's Creed: Locus #1

By Chris Tresson

I don’t think I’ve ever read a decent comic based on a video game. Ever. I usually steer clear of them and since I stopped playing so many videos games, I haven’t even been tempted to pick one up. Until now. Please understand before reading this review, I am not reading this because I’m a big fan of Assassin’s Creed. I’m reading this because I’m a fan of what this creative team are capable of. I'm interested in what they could do together. So, let’s cut the bullshit: this is my review of Assassin’s Creed: Locus #1 from Titan Comics. So this is the basic gist of Assassin’s Creed (to my understanding): There are some dudes with a machine that they use to search for things through time. Valuable things. They use the ancestors of the guys who were originally in the timeline at the point where this shit can be found. I think that’s right, right? Am I right? Does it matter…?
