Review: Ian Livingstone's Freeway Fighter #1

By Chris Tresson

've been lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of Ian Livingstone's Freeway Fighter #1, which is out this May from Titan Comics. The series is being written by Andi Ewington (who's work I like to follow), drawn by Simon Coleby, colored by Len O’Grady and lettered by Jim Campbell.

Project Superpowers: Hero Killers Coming In May

Since 2007, Dynamite Entertainment has been the home to many of the Golden Age of Comics' greatest heroes -- characters like Black Terror, the Green Lama, the Death-Defying Devil, Masquerade, The Owl, and dozens more -- in the pages of Project Superpowers. Industry legends like Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, and Warren Ellis were among the many exceptional talents to reimagine these heroes for a modern audience, frequently in epic storylines with intense interpersonal intrigue and world-spanning stakes. Now, Dynamite welcomes aboard the incredible team of Ryan Browne (God Hates Astronauts) and Pete Wood (Robin, Deadpool), two creators who dare to deliver an altogether unexpected, satirical take on the classic superhero mythos with Project Superpowers: Hero Killers.

Review: Hook Jaw #3

By Chris Tresson

Greetings, Chum! We’re about to dive into my review of the third issue of Titan Comics’ Hook Jaw miniseries, written by Simon Spurrier and drawn by Conor Boyle. It’s been pretty good so far and we’re over halfway through with this one, so the finish is in sight… Let’s find out if it’s any good.

Titan Publishing Bandai/Namco "Little Nightmares" Comic

By Dustin Cabeal

Oh what a world we live in. We don't even have to play the game in order to get tie-in material! I'm sure this comic will answer any deep rooted question you have about the game or something of that nature. I won't know, I don't know what the fuck the game is nor do I want to read a comic based on a video game in general.

Preview: Freeway Fighter #1... and A Trailer

Spinning out of the legendary Fighting Fantasy series of gamebooks created by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson in 1982, the post-apocalyptic Freeway Fighter distinguished itself by deviating from the usual mix of orcs, goblins and cave-trolls. Celebrating 35 years in 2017, Fighting Fantasy brought together choice driven storytelling with a dice-based role-playing system to create a world in which "YOU are the hero!” The series sold over 18 million copies worldwide and is translated in over 30 languages.

Review: Hook Jaw #2

By Chris Tresson

Well, let’s not fuck around here. This series is probably the best Titan Comics is publishing right now. It’s ace and has a great creative team on it and it has a shark in it. I don’t feel like I need to ramble a big introduction to it, so here we go, this is my review of Titan Comics’ Hook Jaw #2. Out this week at your local comic shop.

Review: Khaal #1

By Dustin Cabeal

Khaal is originally a French comic book, which isn’t 100% apparent from the cover. It becomes more obvious upon reading it and realizing that the art is beautiful, while the story struggles. I’ve heard a lot of people say that French comics value art over the story and that’s damn true here.

Review: The Assignment #1

By Chris Tresson

This is my first review of the new year* so I thought I’d pick something I wouldn’t usually go for… and this week’s comics up for review weren’t all that great, so that’s another reason I picked this book. I will say that when I first opened the review copy of this book and saw the first few panels I thought to myself, “Shit! This looks pretty nice… I might have to review it just for the art. This looks really good!” So, this is why I’m here reviewing it. This is my review of (Re)assignment #1 from Titan Comic’s Hard Case Crime imprint.

Review: Tank Girl Gold #3

Dustin has been telling me since the beginning of my writing career here at CB to NOT GUSH about books, no matter how much I like them. So I can't tell you HOW AWESOME Tank Girl has been. How much I LOVE the art. I can't even tell you how UTTERLY ENTERTAINING this book is, considering some of the slop that comes across the comic stands. You'll just have to feel it through my reviews.

Review: Hook Jaw #1

By Chris Tresson

This book I’m about to review is probably one of the more interesting looking titles available at comic shops this week… This book I'm about to review is Hook Jaw #1 from Titan Comics, written by Si Spurrier with art from Conor Boyle. As far as I’m aware, this series is a reboot of a character from a British comic called Action. A comic which came and went way before my time. I’m not sure of the complete history of the character, but I’m going to go out on a severed limb and say this is the first time the character has had its own series outside of that old weekly comic and I’ve found myself wanting to review it based on the fact that it’s about a shark… and I usually pop my head in on everything Si Spurrier writes. Here we go now…

Mini-Reviews: Week of 12/7/16

By Robert Ramos

While Papa Bastard is partying out of the country, someone needed to fill his shoes around here and boy howdy does he have some big feet. Joking aside, Dustin really is not available and comics needed to be reviewed: Enter me. This worked well for him and since I really suck at going into tons of detail on anything, this is right up my alley. Let’s hope you enjoy this round of Mini-Reviews!
