Seven Seas Licenses LGBT+ Manga SHIMANAMI TASOGARE by Yuhki Kamatani
Seven Seas Entertainment is thrilled to announce the license acquisition of Yuhki Kamatani’s Shimanami Tasogare. Best known for their series Nabari no Ou, Kamatani’s skill as a creator is mesmerizing in this beautiful coming-of-age story about identity and relationships in our ever-expanding world.
Not only is high schooler Tasuku Kaname the new kid in town, he’s also terrified that he’s been outed as gay. Just as he’s contemplating doing the unthinkable, Tasuku meets a mysterious woman who leads him to a group of people dealing with problems not so different from his own. In this realistic, heartfelt depiction of LGBT+ characters from different backgrounds finding their place in the world, a search for inner peace proves to be the most universal experience of all.
“Shimanami Tasogare really is something special,” says Seven Seas Marketing Manager Lianne Sentar. “It manages to represent so many different ways that people shape their identities and find their unique spaces, which is something anyone can relate to. It’s no wonder this compelling drama has resonated with so many people.”
Seven Seas will publish the manga Shimanami Tasogare for the first time in North America in single volume editions. Volume 1 will be released on May 7, 2019 for $12.99 USA / $15.99 CAN.

Review: Juana and the Dragonewt's Seven Kingdoms vol. 1
By Thea Srinivasan
Whenever I learn about a new fictional species, I’m always worried whether they have anything against humanity. In most science fiction mediums, I’ve seen reptilian-humanoid species try to destroy humanity in some way and they end up either losing to humanity or leaving earth in a post-apocalyptic state. Sometimes these species want to eat humans, which is kind of disgusting in reality. Luckily, I did not have to deal with that in Juana and the Dragonewt's Seven Kingdoms.

Review: Hollow Fields vol. 1
By Jonathan Edwards
As it turns out, Hollow Fields Vol. 1 was originally published in June of 2007 and black & white. Cut to roughly and a half years later, and Seven Seas Entertainment has opted to re-release this full-color version. I can’t say I’ve heard of that being a particularly common practice, at least in terms of the traditional manga publishing industry. However, Hollow Fields is not a part of the traditional industry. It’s an “original English-language” manga. And in this case, that means the writer and artist is Australian. I know some people have a huge issue with manga produced outside of Japan by people who aren’t Japanese, but I’m not really one of them. Sure, you’re inherently going to get some stylistic changes thanks to cultural differences, but if the general themes and tropes are congruent, then why should overseas works be excluded? Especially when there are people who dismiss any and all Japanese animation solely on the premise that they “don’t like anime.” This is despite the fact you might be trying to get them to watch Spirited Away, and all they’re familiar with is the likes of Bleach.
