Review: Gung Ho

This comic would be better served by a different cover. The interior art is far more pleasing than the somewhat realistic figure that you’ll instead be looking at for most of this review. As I said in this week’s podcast, I don’t like anthropomorphic ape stories. It’s a subgenre that I try to avoid because the vast majority of it is the same theme in a different setting. It’s just not particularly interesting to me and never will be.

Growing up as a fan of the character Cyclops I would always get excited when he would have a solo series or something outside of the core X-Men titles. Cyclops outside of an ensemble cast, means more Cyclops right? Rarely does that prove to be true, real ones already know. This newest solo series introduces some interesting back story, some interesting retro lore only to rely on old characters presented with muddled art. At the end of this comic, it’s less a Cyclops story and more of a reinventing of an old villain.
