Review: Manifest Destiny #35
By Garrett Hanneken
If you’ve been following Manifest Destiny since the beginning, then you may have noticed that the current arc has changed gears. Instead of focusing on imaginary creatures the series sheds light on the monstrous side of humanity. With one more issue left in the arc, we can assess if this change was beneficial or not.

Millar reveals the highly anticipated THE MAGIC ORDER #1 will have no second printings
Press Release
In a letter to select comics retailers yesterday, Mark Millar revealed that the #1 launch issue of his first title with NETFLIX—the hotly anticipated THE MAGIC ORDER with art by Olivier Coipel which was first announced at Image Expo—will not go to a second printing.

Review: Barrier #3
By Cat Wyatt
The third issue of Barrier is out, and I have to admit I’ve been really looking forward to this one. I’ve heard talk about it before – it’s the first online comic to be entirely nonverbal. Considering the story being told this actually makes sense, but it’s still such an interesting idea.

Review: Barrier #2
By Cat Wyatt
Barrier continues its unique storytelling style in this second issue. It’s the second out of five issues in total, and it really isn’t afraid to take any risks. When last we saw Liddy and Oscar they were being picked up by an alien spaceship, of all things. I don’t know how they’re going to get out of this situation, but I can only assume that they’re going to have to learn to work together in order to succeed.

Review: Barrier #1
By Cat Wyatt
Barrier isn’t a new series, but it is absolutely worth reading. It was originally shared on PanelSyndicate.com (and can actually still be found there). It’s being put into print for the first time ever this month, and honestly, even if you’ve already read the series before it’s worth picking up and taking a look at. The artwork is absolutely stunning, and I think it shows off beautifully in print format – especially the covers (have I ever mentioned that I’m a total sucker for pretty covers?).

Review: Rat Queens v2 #9
By Cat Wyatt
It’s time for another Rat Queens issue! I’m sure I’m not the only fan out there that’s been wondering what has been going on, and this issue mercifully starts to give us answers. Granted, it also gave me a lot more questions, but one step at a time, right? Keeping with the style of the last few issues we see yet another Rat Queen missing from the cover; this time it’s Violet who’s in the white silhouette. That leaves just Hannah and Betty on the cover. I wonder who will be the last gal standing? (For the record: I’m rooting for Betty).

Review: Crude #2
By Dustin Cabeal
There’s just something not quite there with this series yet. While the first issue was generally enjoyable, this second issue feels like it’s treading water with the same pacing and slow build up. If this was the board game of Life, we’d still be in the circle for college waiting to get our career… meaning we’ve wasted two turns with shitty spins.

Review: Gideon Falls #3
By Dustin Cabeal
Slow burn stories in comics are best read in trades or graphic novels. The norm for comics is that most single issues are written with the trade in mind and I’m not against that nor am I necessarily for waiting for the trade. There is, of course, a longer discussion about all of this, but none of it will quicken the pace of Gideon Falls. No discussion will make this slow burn any less dull than where I find it currently.

Review: The Dead Hand #2
By Ben Snyder
Once again I find myself hooked by another twist so cleverly placed at the end of The Dead Hand #2. Each chapter, I feel as if I understand the world of Mountain View and am fairly knowledgeable of its rules only for the end to upheave me. Writer Kyle Higgins, artist Stephen Mooney, and Colorist Jordie Bellaire continue to contort tropes and subvert expectations in the latest issue of The Dead Hand resulting in another standout chapter for the fledgling series.

Review: Death of Love #4
By Cat Wyatt
The second to last issue of Death of Love is here, and I have to admit it’s already a little bittersweet. I’ve been enjoying this series, so I’ll be sad to see it go. In the meantime, I’m going to do my very best to enjoy it while I have it! In the last issue, we saw Philo drugging his two (and possibly only) friends to prove that he wasn’t crazy (because that’s the sort of thing a sane and considerate person would do…oh wait), and well…they now understand what he’s been wailing about this whole time.

Review: Angelic vol. 1
By Hunter T. Patrick
Never judge a book by its cover. I read this going off of how wonderful the cover was. After reading, I had one word I could not wait to type. Finally. I finally finished this godawful book. The art looks cool, and it is not the best. The story is intriguing enough. The writing was groan-inducing. The dialogue is from animals such as monkey, so you would expect monkeys to say all this, but it went overboard, and I had to endure the word ‘poop’ about twice every other page. The easy part of this review is what went wrong, so let me state what worked first.

Review: Proxima Centauri #1
By Hunter T. Patrick
First and foremost, this artwork is great… Okay great is an understatement, it is phenomenal. This is a book where there is no need to buy this for the writing, but just to look at all the very unique art. It looks straight out of a children’s book, but with a more mature tone. The artwork fits the story and setting perfectly with a more fantasy book with issues of childhood. I am not familiar with the creator (Farel Dalrymple), and I hope this book has the creator be more well known in the comic community after this.

Review: Reborn vol. 1
By Sam King
Reborn takes the question of what happens after we die and turns it into a fantasy adventure full of monster killing and the promise of a better future. The artwork is top notch, and the pace is largely optimal for the story being told. This is also a complete story, beginning to end, so this volume will not leave you waiting to see what happens which is a nice plus. There are a few convenience issues, but we will get to that.

Review: The Gravediggers Union vol. 1
By Sam King
This story is supposedly about people who keep zombies, ghost storms, and vampires at bay, but so far I’m not feeling it. I thought the premise had a lot of potential, but the pace is dragging, and I can’t say I’m all that attached to anyone. The characters are nothing special, the art is lackluster for me overall, and I wish there were more action and less “suspense.”

Review: Prism Stalker #3
By Cat Wyatt
Issue three of Prism Stalker brings us back to the psychedelic worlds that we’ve come to know and love in just a few short issues. This issue continues the saga of the new world that Vep is supposed to be helping to colonize, at least, that’s assuming she passes all of her training.

Review: Isola #2
Issue #2 of Isola picks up where #1 left off, Rook traveling with the Queen in tiger form. The art is slightly less awe-inspiring this issue since a lot of the story takes place in more ruins and rocky areas than wilderness. We get to know more about Rook’s history and meet some new people.

Review: Analog #2
By Ben Snyder
It says a lot that I’m continually left fascinated by Analog’s world despite writer Gerry Duggan’s hit or miss script. The post-internet world is so captivating that it feels as if there are endless possibilities. With the new addition of government intervention in private affairs, it seems as though Analog is on a more set path than previously thought which definitely helps, and Duggan’s humor is a much appreciated counter-balance to the heavy noir elements present in the story. Despite some initial trepidation due to an unnecessarily long fight scene, Analog #2 adjusts itself and delivers a solid issue to continue the story.

PERDY original graphic novel is a smokin' Western read
Press Release
Image Comics is pleased to announce PERDY: a new original graphic novel western series from Angoulême Award nominee, and international star, Kickliy.
The titular character, Perdy, loves two things: sex and robbing banks—no particular order. After spending 15 years in Yuma prison, Perdy wastes no time in getting back to doing both. A lot has changed since Perdy’s been away, especially her looks, but that’s not gonna stop her from piecing together the biggest score of gold this side of the border. And if anyone gets in her way, they’ll be pushing up petunias.

034 - Back finally with a new episode! Really I finally had something worth talking about, too bad for you it's all comics you can't read yet! That's right; I have six new issues to talk about that will either be out at the end of the month or next month. I'd usually list them right now, but you can head over to the review section and get a preview if you need one. Otherwise, just be surprised.

Review: The Last Siege #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Like most people that are likely going to pick up this comic, I knew nothing about it going in. At the time of writing this, I believe that it’s recently announced so there might not be a ton of awareness for The Last Siege. The first thing to note is that the meaning behind the title completely escapes me, but that’s perfectly fine. Not every title needs or should be easy to decipher.
