Review: The Unexpected #1
By Dustin Cabeal
The only good thing that’s come from Dark Night Metal is that there’s a slew of new characters flooding the DC Universe. There’s not much of a chance that all of these new characters will stick around, but I like when DC attempts character creations like this because we might see them later down the road, re-invented and more interesting. After the big “you better own that character” boom of the mid-2000’s creators seemed to stop creating new characters for the big two which left this void of potentially dumb, but awesome characters.

It’s a NXT TAKEOVER at BOOM! Studios in September 2018
By Dustin Cabeal
I love these covers, but reading old WWE story lines in comic form is boring, especially when the stories don't mean anything to the company creating them. But those covers are sick as fuck!

Riverdale Goes to War in New ARCHIE 1941 Mini-Series by Waid, Augustyn, and Krause
By Dustin Cabeal
I don't know about this if Archie doesn't come back with a drinking problem from seeing the inside of Jughead's skull... then I'm calling it a missed opportunity.

052 - We've got our guest crew with us today. Welcome back Erika and Sean to the show. We struggle with a theme to the episode, but ultimately we settle upon love... in all, it's freaky forms. There is no Tokyo Ghoul: re... cap this time around, but we'll cover four episodes next time. Now sit down or continue driving while you listen to the 52nd episode of Super S - Anime Podcast.

Review: Crude #2
By Dustin Cabeal
There’s just something not quite there with this series yet. While the first issue was generally enjoyable, this second issue feels like it’s treading water with the same pacing and slow build up. If this was the board game of Life, we’d still be in the circle for college waiting to get our career… meaning we’ve wasted two turns with shitty spins.

Review: Gideon Falls #3
By Dustin Cabeal
Slow burn stories in comics are best read in trades or graphic novels. The norm for comics is that most single issues are written with the trade in mind and I’m not against that nor am I necessarily for waiting for the trade. There is, of course, a longer discussion about all of this, but none of it will quicken the pace of Gideon Falls. No discussion will make this slow burn any less dull than where I find it currently.

035 - Welcome to this week's show. It's just a regular review week for me, a little bit of the new, a little bit of the continuing... ongoing... whatever. I'll leave the list below, but it's 13 minutes of your life, feel free to be surprised!
Comic Books covered on this episode:
Justice League: No Justice #1
Sideways #4
The Immortal Men #2
Relay #1
RoboCop: Citizen's Arrest #2
Savage Takes: Vampirella #1

Review: Sideways #4
By Dustin Cabeal
Sideways continues to be an interesting experiment from DC Comics. There are definitely chunks of the story that feel missing or changed at the drop of a hat. While it doesn’t bother me as a reader, I can see the fickle superhero reader being far less forgiving. Mostly, because Sideways breaks a lot of the superhero norms at the moment.

Review: Robocop: Citizen's Arrest #2
By Dustin Cabeal
This is more along the lines of what I expected in the first issue. That is to say that it’s more along the lines of every other RoboCop comic from BOOM! that I’ve read. Much of this comic is inconsequential to the plot and offers no character development.

034 - Back finally with a new episode! Really I finally had something worth talking about, too bad for you it's all comics you can't read yet! That's right; I have six new issues to talk about that will either be out at the end of the month or next month. I'd usually list them right now, but you can head over to the review section and get a preview if you need one. Otherwise, just be surprised.

Review: The Last Siege #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Like most people that are likely going to pick up this comic, I knew nothing about it going in. At the time of writing this, I believe that it’s recently announced so there might not be a ton of awareness for The Last Siege. The first thing to note is that the meaning behind the title completely escapes me, but that’s perfectly fine. Not every title needs or should be easy to decipher.

Review: Stellar #1
By Dustin Cabeal
There’s an adage, “Name your wrestlers like you’d name your children.” The thought process behind this is that you don’t name someone something that can be easily turned cruel. Of course, most people think of cruel rhymes first, but easy targets like “Stellar” which have more than one meaning, are also easy targets. I’m not saying this to be cruel; I’m just pointing out how easy it's going to be for this title.

Review: Flavor #1
By Dustin Cabeal
There has been a slew of cooking-themed comics in the past year. While manga has always dominated the genre and found new and interesting ways to present it, the Western comics are still getting their footing. The problem tends to be the story itself. The rules for cooking and the setting are always interesting, but then the stories seem to spend more time reminding you of the concept than building on it. Unfortunately, Flavor isn’t looking to be much different.

Review: The Weatherman #1
By Dustin Cabeal
What I’m going to eventually say in this opening is going to sound like a slam against Image and really, I can’t help if anyone takes it that way. It has been a long ass time since I was excited about a new Image title. While I enjoy the fact that Image is the number three publisher and feel that they produce a wide variety of comics that disrupt the superhero conglomerate, at the end of the day their crutch is sci-fi fantasy stories, and lately, it’s been pretty dull when a new title is released. Don’t get me wrong; it’s not that they’re bad titles, but much like superhero inc. and superhero llc., there are so many titles that it all starts to feel a bit average and overpraised. Okay, that last part is a bit of a slam, but saying all comic books are great is like saying every movie, tv show, and video game is great. Be consistent is all I’m saying, anyway.

Review: Ether: The Copper Golems #1
By Dustin Cabeal
The first series of Ether was a fantastic read that ended on such a low note. On the one hand, there was this fantastic magical journey that approached the genre differently. A man of science is trying to unlock magic in a logical way. Then the ending hit. Boone, our main character, was homeless, starving and left his family long ago to pursue this adventure. Worse, to get there, he has to hang himself and inflict the real possibility of death, not to mention, what if one time it doesn’t work?

Review: Skip to the End
By Dustin Cabeal
My name is Dustin, and I survived the grunge era. Sure, I was pretty much a kid, but I still recall how terrible it was. That’s my clever way of saying I was never a fan of Nirvana, which I’m sure many of you will be mortified to learn. I once had a teacher in college that worked on a Nirvana music video, and I stared blankly because I had no idea what fucking song she was talking about and I sure as shit never watched the video.
