Review: Red Sonja v4 #3

Red Sonja set in the modern era continues to provide a mixed bag of entertainment. It seems that every issue will have something good and enjoyable about it, but then also have its fair share of groan-inducing elements. For now, it’s a balanced back and forth, but should it start to favor the eye rolling side of things, this would be an easy series to drop.

Well, color me shocked. I gave this another chance but didn’t see myself reviewing another issue after the first issue of the new Red Sonja. I found this issue to be marginally better, but still lacking in a lot of ways. I want that to be clear, it’s better, but it’s not great.

Oh wow… this is far worse than I thought it could be. The idea of this volume of Dynamite’s Red Sonja is that she’s been transported to modern day New York City. I’m sure some were thinking, “wow, that’s different” and while you’re technically right, different isn’t always good.

Review: Black Lotus Empire #1

We as comic book readers have a general understand and acceptance that not every first issue is going to be a polished diamond. Some are going to be rough around the edges and actually that’s not a bad thing. I have read too many great first issues only to be disappointed by everything that followed. I’ll take a rough diamond any day. That said, Black Lotus Empire isn’t perfect, but it’s very enjoyable.
