GEOFF JOHNS ANNOUNCES STARGIRL SERIES FOR DC UNIVERSE SERVICE

Geoff Johns delighted fans at his Spotlight panel Thursday at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2018 with the news that he is writing and executive producing STARGIRL for the DC Universe digital subscription service. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will also executive produce. The original series is the sixth for the brand-new service and focuses on the character that started Johns’ career as a comic book writer when he created her in 1999, lovingly inspired by his late sister who was killed in a 1996 plane explosion.

Geoff Johns to Expand Creative Role Becoming A Full-Time Writer/Producer for Film, Television and More; Exclusive to DC and WB

Geoff Johns is launching Mad Ghost Productions and is entering into an exclusive writer/producer deal with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment to create content across multiple divisions of the Studio, including films, television, and comic books, based on current DC properties as well as new and reimagined IP.  As part of this deal, he will segue from his executive post as President and Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment to focus on creative matters full-time.  DC Entertainment Publisher Jim Lee will expand his role to include the Chief Creative Officer title and responsibilities and will continue to act as Publisher together with Dan DiDio as they have since 2010.  These announcements were made today by Thomas Gewecke, Chief Digital Officer and Executive Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, who is serving as DC’s interim head.

It’s likely that Doomsday Clock will go down as the greatest waste of Gary Frank’s talents. I pop for the artwork for sure, but this story is so incredibly dull. I 100% stand by everything I said in my first review of the series. None of that has changed. This is just Geoff Johns making sure he’s the one that gets to play in the Watchmen world before anyone else can. I’m sure next year we’ll see plenty of the characters as they flood the DCU… or maybe not.
