Review: Not All Robots #1

This is my first comic from AWA. I have little interest in where the company came from and all the backstory. I just know that more comic book companies are a good thing especially as legacy companies continue to be bought by corporate entities. Though I’m fairly certain that AWA is likely owned by a corporation. At any rate, this issue does not make me want to further explore their line of books. That’s fucked up right? Well, that’s how it goes. Every book has the potential to be someone’s first or first book with your company and when you’re a new company every issue potentially decides a reader’s interest in your entire line. That said, I’m not an asshole and will give them further chances, but Not All Robots is a book that I would like to never think about again.

Review: Action Comics Special #1

I love Superman. Plain and simple. When I was a kid, I only really liked him because, well, I was a kid, and he was a superhero. The superhero. And, for a few teenage years, I didn’t like him for all of the easy, low hanging fruit reasons to dislike him. He’s too strong. He’s boring. His one weakness is too readily available. Blah blah blah. But, when I finally sat down and actually read books like Superman: Birthright, Superman: Secret Identity, Kingdom Come, and All-Star Superman, I quickly came to love him for everything he truly embodies. So, you better believe I was hyped when I found out that, among other things, Rebirth meant the original Superman was returning to the limelight. Now, just a couple of weeks ago Action Comics #1000 came out and paid thorough homage to the legacy of the Man of Steel. Admittedly, I stopped reading Action Comics after a couple of months, mainly because I found the other Clark Kent (when that was still a thing) to be insufferable. However, I absolutely picked up that issue, and it was fantastic. So, I am kind of surprised to see Action Comics Special #1 come out this week. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems a bit strange, maybe even pointless, to release a special right after the infinitely more special 1000th issue.

Review: The Flintstones #12

Never in my life did I think I'd be singing praises for any piece of media connected with The Flintstones license, but here we are. Mark Russell and Steve Pugh have crafted one of DC's finest comics of the past few years – singlehandedly justifying the existence of the Hanna Barbera line. The miniseries closes this week with its twelfth issue, bringing a thematic conclusion that satisfies wholeheartedly.

Review: Catwoman: Election Night #1

Okay, I have no real idea where to start with this. Presumably, to cash in on the repulsive election we're suffering through right now, DC Comics decided to jam out some sort of 'topical' response quickly. This thing is a genuine oddity folks. There hasn't been something so desperately political and equally confused about its subject in the Dark Knight's library since 1971's 'Batman' #230.
