Clonsters #1, written by Amy and Pat Shand and illustrated by Vanessa Cardinali, is an odd creation. The title is short for Clay Monsters, and the book itself is based on the clay creatures made by Amy Shand, creator of the concept. A comic based on somebody’s Etsy store is not something I ever expected to read, but this is one that clearly has an enormous amount of affection put into it.

Review: Destiny, NY vol. 1

When I read the concept for this graphic novel, I had a feeling I would enjoy it. The concept is that magic is a part of our world and people are given destinies of greatness, a little like a magical girl receiving her calling and having to fight some great evil. Right there you have me because magic girl. The thing is, it’s not the thing that I ended up liking about this book. Instead, it was the complex relationships and diversity of characters.

Review: Hellchild: The Unholy #1

Hellchild reminded me a little of BOOM!’s Lucifer series, but with a Wolverine movie twist to it. I didn’t read the first Hellchild series, and frankly, you don’t need to have read this new series. There’s a nifty full page recap in the middle of the comic that gives you all the details about Hellchild which is a good thing since readers will walk away with knowledge about the character that’s not presented in the comic.
