Review: Motherlands #6

By Cat Wyatt

Motherlands #6 is the final issue in this series by Vertigo, and it has been quite the emotional roller coaster. We’ve been following the life of Tab, which has had its painful moments. The last issues revelation has left us anxious to see what happens next, though that emotion is tinted with a hint of dread…

Review: Motherlands #5

By Cat Wyatt

Motherlands is one of those series that really knows how to rip out your heart and stomp on it. Every time you think you’ve got the series figured out, and that you’ve seen the worst it has to offer, it throws another curveball at you. Motherlands #5 is no exception to this rule, so be prepared. The last issue left us off with Tabitha finally successfully tracking down Bubba, only to find him grieving over his dead father.

Review: Motherlands #4

By Cat Wyatt

Motherlands is continuing its tale of a mother and daughter who have teamed up in an attempt to bring down one final bounty. Granted, the mother hopes to bring the bounty in alive, being that he’s her son and all. Tab doesn’t care so much about that since he left her alone with her hag of a mother. The last issue left us off with Sylph in shock and in tears after Tab apparently shot her son…

Who was obviously a decoy. Tab is actually shocked (and maybe a little embarrassed) that Sylph couldn’t seem to tell the difference. Though I suppose it could be Sylph’s theatrics that are the real cause here…

Review: Motherlands #3

By Cat Wyatt

Motherlands #3 starts off with Tab and her (obnoxious) mother get a badly needed R&R and healing day (remember, Tab did actually get hurt in the last issue). The place they’re at is a sort of blend between a medical facility and a spa, which is actually an interesting concept. Apparently, they’ll make your body and aura feel better by the time you’re done. Or at least that’s the theory.

Review: Deathbed #1

By Dustin Cabeal

I don’t particularly like it when reviews spout off comic history or such nonsense like, “Vertigo was Image before Image was.” I get it though; we look for ways to simplify and boil things down to their core. Which is why I will say that Deathbed is the most Image feeling Vertigo comic I have ever read.

Review: Motherlands #2

By Cat Wyatt

Motherlands #2 wastes no time reminding us just how scummy dear old mother (aka Scarlet Sylph) really is. By all appearances, she’s happily soaking in all the attention of being the mother of a known criminal – and by also being one of the bounty hunters going after him. It’s no wonder Tab didn’t want to have to ask her mother for help.

Review: Motherlands #1

By Cat Wyatt

This is the first issue in a new series by Vertigo; it appears it’s only going to be six issues long, so it’s not a huge investment for any of the fans. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty willing to give anything by Vertigo a try (but then again, they published Y: the Last Man, so of course I feel that way). Tabitha (AKA Tab) lives in a world where multiple parallel earths are interconnected to one another. Sounds like pure chaos, right? It pretty much is, and that chaos seems like it would be a bounty hunter’s dream come true. Which makes it pretty fortunate that Tab is a bounty hunter.

Review: Imaginary Fiends #1

By Daniel Vlasaty

Growing up, I never had an imaginary friend. Not sure what that says about me but I just never did. But I do remember my sister having one. It was this fat little baby looking-thing named Chebby or something like that. I also remember trying to play with them, my sister and Chebby were always getting up to something, but she never let me. She’d always say that Chebby didn’t like me or that it (he?) was mad at me or that it hated me. My sister was older than me and was never really nice when we were kids.

Review: Savage Things #3

By Dustin Cabeal

I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire point of Savage Things is to introduce Vertigo readers to Justin Jordan and Ibrahim Moustafa because the point of the story is lost on me. Lost on me in the sense that it’s breaking some logic that’s being established between the two timelines.

007 - This week on the cast we have only two subjects to talk about. The first being the Marvel flub earlier in the week. Steve and Dustin will walk through some of the issues they feel Marvel is dealing with while dissecting the comment made by the Marvel sales VP. After that we continue our segment "Year of the Bastard" with a look at the second volume of Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis, Darick Robertson and Rodney Ramos. Please feel free to leave comments, subscribe and add to the discussion in anyway you can think of, thank for listening. (Remember to click the arrow or the title to go to the show!)

Review: Savage Things #2

By Dustin Cabeal

There is a lot to enjoy about Savage Things as long as serial killers being used as terrorist agents is your cup of tea. In a lot of ways, Savage Things is either the American answer to James Bond or Jason Bourne with psychopaths. Take your pick on which sounds more appealing to you.

Review: Savage Things #1

By Dustin Cabeal

I’m not one to use simple explanations of what a comic is or isn’t. Sometimes it’s unavoidable as is the case with Savage Things because sidestepping it would likely make for a review that was uninteresting and off-putting for people that were perhaps interested in actually reading the comic afterward.

Review: Frostbite #3

By Mike Badilla

Frostbite. From about 12 seconds of research online, I've found that this series takes place in the future. Global warming has caused the world to become a frozen wasteland. We see how people are reacting and living in this future time. Every one loves apocalyptic future stories, right? Right? It's also being described as a 'western', but it takes place in a frozen Los Angeles. Hmm...

Review: Frostbite #2

So I reviewed the first issue of this series when it came out and overall, I wasn’t impressed by it. I’m a firm believer that if you don’t like the first issue of something, you should at least pick up the second issue to see if your opinion can be swayed… This is my review of Vertigo’s Frostbite #2 by Joshua Williamson and Jason Shawn Alexander.
