Zenescope To Premiere “Revenge of Wonderland” At San Diego Comic Con
Press Release
After a three year hiatus, Zenescope’s smash hit series returns with Revenge of Wonderland. The first issue will be released at San Diego Comic Con and hit shelves at comic book retailer shops in late July. Zenescope’s Wonderland series became a breakout sensation for the young publishing house back in 2007 with its original title: Return to Wonderland. The company went on to publish several sequels and prequels over the following eight years. In 2012, Zenescope debuted Alice in Wonderland which sold out of the initial 20,000 copy print run within the first week of its release.

Review: Oz - The Wizard #1
By Hunter T. Patrick
[Insert overused Wizard of Oz quote in a slightly new way here]. Being a really big fan of the Wizard of Oz movie was I excited to read this, not realizing that this is a continuation of a previous story. Do not worry, this issue sums everything up in the first few pages where you do not need any background. If you desperately want to know more and if you have not read anything else, please go on and google image Zenescope Oz like I did and enjoy all the comic cleavage anyone could possibly want for a character originally younger than 18, but do not worry, I am assuming this version of the character is at least 18.

Review: Jasmine: Crown of Kings #1
I have never read a Zenescope comic in my life, so I figured a new series would be a good place to give one a try. Jasmine: Crown of Kings #1 is the first issue in a new five-part series. It is a pretty decent starting issue and got me into the swing of things pretty quickly. This series takes Jasmine, a former Jinn, and entangles her with Ali and the Forty Thieves.

Review: Belle #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Belle isn’t unlike most monster of the week TV shows. That’s by no mean a slam because I enjoy shows like that, even if it’s only for a few seasons. There was something in particular that Belle reminds me of, but for the life of me, I couldn’t place it. Perhaps a reader of this comic and review will think of it and leave a comment.

These three new series are also part of Zenescope’s popular and continually growing shared universe of characters.

Review: The Black Sable #1
By Dustin Cabeal
It seems that Zenescope’s new formula for books is familiar themes. For The Black Sable, it would be a pirate or in this case a space pirate that gets wrapped up in a big score and a lot of danger. It’s not unfamiliar in the least bit, but it actually presents an interesting story with a creative world.

Review: Grimm Fairy Tales #5
By Ashley Gibbs
Fairy tales are something I personally grew up with, be it in book form or told through visual media. I do admit I’m new to this particular comic series but I have seen it before in stores and wondered what it was all about, Grimm Fairy Tales #5 gave me that chance. Despite it being the fifth issue, I jumped in completely blind. Good news is that I didn’t feel too lost, sure I could tell there was a history with the characters and story being told but I was given enough basic information to follow along and enjoy the story. Evil pixies from Neverland have invaded the human world and it’s up to barely-dressed wonder women to save the day, so this issue is filled with plenty of action and adventure.

Review: The Courier: From The Ashes #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Listen if we all make it to the dystopian future I’m going to give you a piece of advance, use in-house couriers. There’s a lot of reasons to do this, but the biggest is that it’s cheaper in the long run. It makes someone in your crew feel like a vital part of the team, and you don’t have to give out money to strangers. The second reason is that anytime there’s a courier, be it dystopian or otherwise, they eventually pick a side in a confrontation, and that could bite you in the ass.

Review: Cinderella: Serial Killer Princess #2 (of 4)
By Robert Ramos
Well, well, well. I have returned, with a full review this time, for the latest installment of Cinderella: Serial Killer Princess. After having such a ball with the first issue, this second issue far exceeded any expectations that I initially came in with.

Review: Grimm Fairy Tales #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Zenescope needs to decide if it’s actually trying to get new readers or if this reboot was just for their current crop of supporters because this first issue felt like an attempt at both. I say attempt because it didn’t really succeed at either. There was this overwhelming sense of being nudged while reading the book. As if someone wanted to tell me, “this is a clever throwback to how the first series started.” The problem being, I didn’t read the first series, I’m not going to read it, and I just wanted something to enjoy in this first issue.
Mini-Reviews: Week of 12/14/16
By Robert Ramos
Guess who’s back, back again. ME. I had so much fun doing my first round of mini-reviews that I’m here for a second run. I sort of went with a theme this week, covering new titles and current ones, so hopefully you guys can jive with that. Let’s go!

Mini-Reviews: Week of 12/7/16
By Robert Ramos
While Papa Bastard is partying out of the country, someone needed to fill his shoes around here and boy howdy does he have some big feet. Joking aside, Dustin really is not available and comics needed to be reviewed: Enter me. This worked well for him and since I really suck at going into tons of detail on anything, this is right up my alley. Let’s hope you enjoy this round of Mini-Reviews!

Mini-Reviews: Week of 11/16/16
By Dustin Cabeal
Hey, I managed to do this two weeks in a row. Maybe it will be a thing. Again, these mini-reviews are for titles that I didn’t have enough to write a full review about. I’m still going to score them and whatnot, but I just couldn’t write a full review either trashing or saying the same thing over and over again. Enjoy!

Mini-Reviews: Week of 11/9/16
By Dustin Cabeal
Something I used to do quite often was mini-reviews. Essentially talk about books that I didn’t want to do a full review for, but still wanted to mention and maybe even attach a score to. If we have a full review for something it won’t show up here, but here’s some titles I read this week that are worth mentioning.

Review: Hellchild: The Unholy #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Hellchild reminded me a little of BOOM!’s Lucifer series, but with a Wolverine movie twist to it. I didn’t read the first Hellchild series, and frankly, you don’t need to have read this new series. There’s a nifty full page recap in the middle of the comic that gives you all the details about Hellchild which is a good thing since readers will walk away with knowledge about the character that’s not presented in the comic.
