Review: Howard the Duck #2

This month isn’t as good as last months. I thought last issue told a pretty coherent story and then layered that story with a bunch of in-jokes, sight gags and comedy references whereas this issue is just a series of events, but with humor throughout.

Review: Imperium #3

If I had to criticize Imperium, that is, ostensibly, what I do after all, it would be that there isn’t a clear line of where this story is going. The first issue sets up a Utopia, so we know where the story ends, and then flashes back to a period of unrest.

Review: iZombie 1.3 – The Exterminator

Well I missed a review for last week’s show so I’ll touch on that before I get to what happened this week. Last week was largely the same as the pilot. It built on the exact same formulas and relationships established in the pilot and failed to expand in any discernible way.

Review: Marvel's Agents of SHIELD 2.15 – One Door Closes

Last week’s lull leads to this week’s blowout! Much like the B-Lister’s fight a few episodes ago this one provides the mini-Marvel movie experience. The plot is a bit jumbled, again, it’s hard to find the various and elusive A and B plot’s and instead we get several equally important plot lines. Let’s jump right into them.

Review: The Flash 1.17 - Tricksters

Flash, dude, what are you doing? I was kind of looking forward to this episode until I started to really think about the continuity. Having to focus on continuity is never a good sign for me because it means there’s nothing compelling about the story.

Review: X-O Manowar #35

X-O Manowar can be inspired at times. Hell, occasionally I think it even touches the lofty perch of art. In this particular issue there is a moment that Aric, the Manowar himself, unable to stop a planet from being destroyed simply embraces one of the unlucky inhabitants left behind.

Review: The Flash 1.16 – Rogue Time

Holy shit, the real villains of this week are Cisco’s shitty fucking family. Jesus. I mean Thong Song wasn’t exactly groundbreaking but it did pretty well. It was all over the place in the 90’s, that’s respectable, even if there wasn’t a follow up hit.

Review: Altered States: The Shadow #1

This one, this one is interesting, perhaps more so than the other Altered State books I’ve read. I’ve always thought of The Shadow as the Batman of pulp comics (perhaps Batman is The Shadow of modern comics?) but in a Justice League of pulp comics I would use The Shadow to fill the Batman role.

Review: The Little Mermaid #2

I’m speechless. I have no idea what to say about this. Nothing happens in this issue, it’s mostly entirely unnecessary flashback. Something the previous issues have struggled with is jumping all over the place with no real narrative direction.

Review: King: Jungle Jim #2

Jungle Jim fuels my love of the Pulpy-verse once more! Is Pulpy-verse catching on by the way? It is kind of goofy. Maybe ‘Kings-land’ is cooler? I still like Pulpy-verse, there’s just something about it but it needs to be called something.

Review: The Goon #51

This is a pretty dense issue all things considered. The story builds a little on the previous issue but the narrative framing device uses The Island of Dr. Moreau to provide parallels between the characters in the book and the emotional state of Goon.
