Review: Tether #1

What do you get when you take a little bit of Conan… well maybe a little bit of Red Sonja; mix it up with some elements of a futuristic Roman Empire, some genetic mad science, and some traditional revolutionary struggle.

Review: Caperbet!

Caperbet! is an entertaining story set in an entertaining world. In some ways it pokes fun at the cities that superheroes call home or really any fictional city in which the criminal element is constant.

Review: Manifest Destiny #8

This comic has been one that I really love sometimes and hate at other times. It has led me on a journey into the great unknown, dazzling me with interesting curiosities, incredible suspense, and foreboding danger.

Review: Pale Dark #2

Several months ago, I had an opportunity to review Pale Dark #1. It's a sci fi/weird science yarn set on the backdrop of a space station and filled with the likes of Gestapo style prison guards/interrogators;

Review: Unity #9

I’m going to help a lot of new Valiant readers out for a moment. Unity isn’t an event book. It had a large storyline kick off at the beginning of the series and then it laid the foundation for Rai to come around and now it is crossing over with Armor Hunters which is an event book, but Unity is not.

Review: Borderlands – The Fall of Fyrestone #1

I, like a lot of video game players, enjoy the hell out of the Borderlands video game franchise. The first two games are very enjoyable and made the grind for loot fun. With that I can also say that I enjoy the acting and story for the games as well. I’m a fan of the franchise and of the culture that’s sprung up around the franchise.

Review: Witchfinder – The Mysteries of Unland #2

My first introduction to Witchfinder was a good one. It’s always interesting to see how expansive the Mignolaverse is. Witchfinder is a welcomed element due to the fact that Sir Edward Grey is very different from the other characters in the Universe. Personally I’m still getting the feel for his character, but I enjoy his interactions with other characters. Polite, but rude is the best way to describe him.

Review: Phenomenal #1

Phenomenal is a story with big aspirations, but poor execution. It’s a shame because it’s not a bad-looking book and the concept isn’t terrible. It’s the structure and storytelling that really holds it back. That and the page count. This story could have easily been broken into two and expanded to be clear and developed better.

Review: Sherwood, TX #1

To put it plainly, Sherwood, TX is Robin Hood with biker gangs. It works because Robin Hood is easily understood and translates to different settings and eras. This first issue is a bit shaky, but it recovers by the end of the story.

Review: The X-Files – Year Zero #1

The X-Files has always been a property that benefits from the slow, creeping burn; I’m not sure The X-Files: Year Zero falls into that category, but it’s definitely not setting out to be a giant-action-blockbuster-so-many-explosions-I’m-going-to-throw-up-extravaganza.

Review: TMNT #36

The Turtles have been in limbo ever since returning from North Hampton. Even there the gang was trying to bring everyone together. There were goals and means even though a huge story arc had just ended.

Review: Adventure Time # 30

This is not your typical Adventure Time issue but definitely worth a read. At first I thought I was reading another spin off mini-series as this comic is not narrated by the author as usual but by Marceline.
