Review: Vampirella #4
Vapirella is back. And this time, she is taking out some of her more rare vampiric cousins as a means to build her strength and resolve in preparation to stop the Mark of Umbra who is described as Our Lady of Shadows and the Bride of the Apocalypse.
Review: Cloaks #1
I have this not-so-secret desire to learn close up magic and anytime I read a story or watch a movie about magic I consider purchasing one of those starter kits and learning a couple of coin manipulation and card passes.
Review: Katusha Vol. 1 & 2
War isn’t a new subject in comic books and really it’s one of the oldest themes for the medium. Katusha takes a look at the Ukrainian and Russian side of World War II.
Review: The Mice Templar #9-13
Let me tell you it’s been a long time since I’ve read The Mice Templar.
Review: The War at Ellsmere
Originally I wasn’t going to review The War at Ellsmere; it was too be a book that I simply read for pleasure. The problem is that I just like Faith Erin Hicks’ storytelling far too much not to talk about it and what I found really impressive was that this was some of her early work.
Review: Bravest Warriors #23
There are comics that I review that I love, and there are comics that I review that I hate. And then, in the Bravest Warriors pile, there are comics I review that leave me simply mystified.
Review: Shinobi: Ninja Princess #1
Who doesn’t like ninjas? They make great bad guys, but also great good guys. They can be funny or deadly series and everything in-between. There are probably one of the most diverse character types in all of the entertainment medium.
Review: Talent – Deluxe Edition
I’m actually pretty excited to be reviewing Talent. Its original release was actually the first comic book from BOOM! Studios that I ever read from the publisher. That’s right ladies and gentlemen; Talent was my gateway book into the world of BOOM!
Review: Drumhellar #8
Drumhellar has been one of those trippy little indulgences that I have thoroughly enjoyed during the last several months. The opening story arc had me laughing a lot, informed a little, and entertained completely.
Review: The Sixth Gun #42
There is a mystery and awe surround by the six that keeps me coming back. Not to mention who doesn’t enjoy a good western. This is a perfect blend of mystery, magic and western that revolves around a set of six shooters.
Review: Sex #15
I have a confession to make…I love Sex. “Well no shit, of course you do”, you may say. Yes, I love Sex, but in regard to the comic Sex, I love it too. It started a little cold to me initially, up on display, trying to draw me in, but I wasn’t really into it.
Review: The Massive #26
Here’s where I’m at with The Massive, Brian Wood’s post-Crash epic: I read the first trade a week and a half ago, and then made it my business to catch up and read the rest of it so I could start reviewing it this week with issue 26.
Review: Captain Midnight #14
After a brief issue of Captain Midnight feeling sorry for himself, forgoing shaving, and becoming a hermit of sorts outside of an isolated little tumbleweed of a town in the Nevada desert, things occurred causing him to have to take action again.
Review: Pop #1
Remember how Fifty Shades of Grey started out as some Twilight knockoff? Well after reading the first issue of Pop, I’m pretty confident that Curt Pires’ story had its beginnings as Grant Morrison-era Doom Patrol fan fic, one that shot for the same kooky and compelling narrative style but ends up having more in common with the guy you knew in 10th grade who tried just a little too hard to be weird (that guy was me if you went St. John’s. Class of ’07!).
Review: Transformers vs. G.I. Joe #2
Having taken their shuttle to Cybertron, The G.I.Joes look to bring the battle to the giant metal invaders’ home planet. The Joes’ weapon of choice is none other than a bomb that infects the fallout zone with green plants.
Review: TMNT - Turtles in Time #3
The concept for Turtles in Time is cool. The Turtles travel to all different places and time periods for a one issue adventure. No doubt that the art is awesome and who would have thought you would see these Turtles in crazy ass places again?
Review: The House in the Wall #1
In the middle of a collage lecture a student by the name of Ariel Carpenter sits and tries to focus. As her attention sways she looks for help from a nearby student.
Review: Low #2
I was not the world’s biggest fan of Low #1, and no one will accuse me of loving issue 2, but I do think the series might have launched on a misstep towards finding a groove.
Review: The Dream Police #4
The Dream Realm grows more and more dangerous for Detective Joe Thursday by the minute. The rules that govern the world slowly slip away, and small messages appear to Joe that confirms all is not well.
Review: Conan The Avenger #5
Conan the Avenger issue five is one of the most fun issues of the series to date, but not in the traditional sense of the word “fun,” more in the “Conan is finally being a heroic badass and getting over Belit” sense of the word, and that’s a good thing.
