Review: Savage Dragon #202

All right, I am sick and tired of the “Malcolm gets laid a lot” story arc. I understand that writer/artist Erik Larsen is working to establish Malcolm as a young hero who is trying to figure out who he is and what he wants to be. Dealing with life issues has been a strong point with the new direction of The Savage Dragon and has been one of the things that has made it worth reading.

Review: Drifter #4

Every time I sit down to review a book I flip back through or at the very least keep the cover up in front of me. It helps me to see what it is I’m writing about. With Drifter I always end up reading the issue again. On one hand that says everything you need to know about the book that it easily sucks you in and reading it a second time always brings up something new.

Review: Secret Identities #1

Secret Identities gives us a new superhero team. The introductory issue drops us right into the action; we open with a battle between our team- the Front Line- and the baddies of the moment. It’s a lot all at once, an overwhelming scene of action and witty banter and goblin-like creatures.

Group Review: Ei8ht #1

The past is green, the present is purple and this review is by a select few from ComicBastards.com. That’s right it’s time for another group review! Remember when we didn’t have any and now we can’t stop coming together like all the Power Rangers for that one really shitty season they did… anyway before a tasteless joke is made, Ei8ht from Dark Horse is up this week and each reviewer is going to give their thoughts and a score.

Review: Dark Horse Presents #7 / #200

Acclaimed Irish author and playwright, William Trevor, once noted that short stories are “the distillation of an essence.” I always liked the idea; that the narrative could be extracted as concentrate, and served like a potion, complete with an eye dropper and a little puff of smoke as the pungent bursts of storytelling unleash their flavor.

Review: Bitch Planet #3

I want to like Bitch Planet so much. I want to see in it what other folks do. But as important as it is to have a comic book that addresses antiestablishmentarianism through a feminist lens, I can’t help but see it as a watered-down, hyped-up oversell.

Review: Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars #1

Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars #1 is the most recent example of a strange beast, one that shouldn’t necessarily be a comic, but comics are kind of popular right now, so why not? Based on an ongoing story from the Thrilling Adventure Hour radio/podcast program, it’s a number 1 issue with a number 0 issue as a back-up, and a lot of the dialogue involves plays on words and soundalikes that are the bread-and-butter of radio and don’t play well in print. It’s pretty messy.
