I biffed on reviewing the last issue of Fight Like A Girl, but it’s actually probably for the better. It probably would have amounted to me saying, “I dig this story still and the art, oh man the art is pretty great!” The fact is, it’s still pretty much all I have to say about it because not much else has changed… or has it?

Okay let’s go ahead and get it out of the way… it’s been a long ass time since this book was last out. It was a launch title for MonkeyBrain Comics and I will be completely honest… it was my favorite launch title. Alice Cooper comes from that massive groups of popular artists known as stage musicians. He was among the first, you could argue that David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust was the first, but without Alice Cooper there would be no Rob Zombie, no Marilyn Manson possibly not even KISS or the New York Dolls.

Review: Savage Dragon #202
All right, I am sick and tired of the “Malcolm gets laid a lot” story arc. I understand that writer/artist Erik Larsen is working to establish Malcolm as a young hero who is trying to figure out who he is and what he wants to be. Dealing with life issues has been a strong point with the new direction of The Savage Dragon and has been one of the things that has made it worth reading.

Every time I sit down to review a book I flip back through or at the very least keep the cover up in front of me. It helps me to see what it is I’m writing about. With Drifter I always end up reading the issue again. On one hand that says everything you need to know about the book that it easily sucks you in and reading it a second time always brings up something new.

If anything, Burning Fields serves as a good reminder as to the enchanting power of a super nicely done first page. Typically, I try to do a first reading of the comics I review for Comic Bastards over a slice and a pint at the local pizza joint.

Review: Creepy #19
The hardest thing in the world is when something is just mediocre. It’s not great in any unique way, it doesn’t fail in any unique way. It just sort of exists and it does an okay job at it. What do you grab onto? What can you say? At least how do you do either of those things in an interesting way? That’s where Creepy #19 comes in. With two solid, but not great, stories and the rest of it filler.

Secret Identities gives us a new superhero team. The introductory issue drops us right into the action; we open with a battle between our team- the Front Line- and the baddies of the moment. It’s a lot all at once, an overwhelming scene of action and witty banter and goblin-like creatures.
