Review: Creature Cops #3
I didn't catch the first two issues of this book, so I had no idea what I was going to see inside. I heard the name before seeing the cover. I actually wondered if the cops in this were creatures. In case you haven't seen anything to do with this comic yet, they're not.
Review: Imperium #3
If I had to criticize Imperium, that is, ostensibly, what I do after all, it would be that there isn’t a clear line of where this story is going. The first issue sets up a Utopia, so we know where the story ends, and then flashes back to a period of unrest.
Review: Jupiter’s Circle #1
Jupiter’s Circle, the prequel to the very cool but all-too-plagued-by-delays Jupiter’s Legacy, further fleshes out Millar’s treatment of a Watchmen-like story.
Review: Kaijumax #1
This was not what I was expecting… I thought it was going to be slapstick comedy making fun of the Kaiju genre and we’d all have a good laugh… I should have realized that the “Max” in the title was referring to prison… this books got heavy quick.
Review: 2000 AD - Prog 1925
Get in on these new stories before they are too far along: the Progs are solid right now.
Review: Adventure Time: Marceline Gone Adrift #4
The first three issues of Adventure Time: Marceline Gone Adrift were all delightful adventures within the framework of the world of Ooo.
Review: The White Queen #3
I do not know what happened here in this conclusion of the White Queen. White Queen takes out the Trickster lady and makes a run at the Black Queen getting her and her daughter killed in the process.
Review: X #24
This issue picks up right where we left off as X is getting mauled by a pack of sangre fiends. Gundog (who we learned is really Lt. Setter) promises these people all the drugs they could need in exchange for X’s heart.
Review: Rai #8
And so marks the end of the second story arc of Rai. I’ve been hard on this series since the beginning, but even it’s been really good and score high marks. I worried that everything was happening a little too easily in this series, but that’s why Matt Kindt is one of the best writers in the biz… he proved me wrong.
Review: Nameless #3
The one thing that I have always loved about comic books is how an author or artist can take an idea, possibly even one that has been around for a long time, and make it effectively their own adding a new layer to a familiar story that enhances and evolves the entire medium.
Review: Lenore: Pink Bellies
There’s nothing new I can say about Lenore. It’s one of those properties that have been around so long that it’s exhausted every compliment and even every criticism. Which is strange right? I mean it’s still doing new things and yet there’s nothing new to say about it? Well let’s try shall we?
Review: Tethered
If there is one thing that we have plenty of its Zombie stories. What was once a niche genre that confused the common woman or man, has now taken over the mainstream. You can thank a dozen properties ranging from movies, comics and video games for this undying trend. So the question when a genre becomes to big is, do we really need more?
Review: The March of the Crabs: The Crabby Condition
If this were any other medium you’d likely skip The March of the Crabs, but thankfully it’s not. The March of the Crabs iterates one of the greatest things about the comic medium… you can tell any story.
Review: Girl in Dior
Girl in Dior is a look at the life of Christian Dior. I almost hate to tell you anything about it, but I suppose the experience will be determined by your level of knowledge of Dior and the era in general. The thing is I became very attached to the main character and the way the story is told you really believe that this was a person plucked out of Dior’s life.
Review: Chicken Outfit #2
Months ago, I had the pleasure to read and review a rather unique independent comic from the creative (and maybe demented) minds of writer/artist Joe Deagnon and writer Kirby Stasyna called Chicken Outfit.
Review: Epic #3
Epic is just a fun series. It does high school very well and I know that’s a terrible sentence, but you get it. I mean this book really captures the mentality of a high school boy for better or worse. Because let’s be honest, high school boys are stupid. I can say that because I was a stupid high school boy.
Review: Army of Darkness – Ash in Space #5
We get a pretty anti-climactic ending to this series this month. The positives this series had going for it were that it really nailed the Army of Darkness tone and Ash’s voice. The action was fast paced but well done and all in all it was a nice addition to the series.
Review: The Woods #12
Well The Woods has been building towards something pretty big for the last four issues. Well, really the last twelve when you look at the series as a whole, but with each arc broken up in fours it’s easier to digest that way.
Review: X-O Manowar #35
X-O Manowar can be inspired at times. Hell, occasionally I think it even touches the lofty perch of art. In this particular issue there is a moment that Aric, the Manowar himself, unable to stop a planet from being destroyed simply embraces one of the unlucky inhabitants left behind.
Review: No Mercy #1
Let's discuss perspective. After reading No Mercy #1 for the first time I sent the following to Comic Bastards' Dear Leader: “That was a fun and tense comic, even though nothing bad happens until the last few pages. I will find a way to keep reading this comic without having a heart attack.” Now after my second read leading up to writing this review I realize there is a giant error, the action kicks in halfway through the book! It felt like the action was minimal and the build was long, yet they were divided evenly. What could possibly create such disconnect?
