Yeah… I’m thinking I’m back
When I ended Comic Bastards in 2018, I had a lot going on and while some people were acutely aware that the site was existing more as a historical record of a lot of people’s work; it was also clear that a lot of people never really paid that close of attention to the site.
Here we are four years later, and I still get emails asking for coverage on this or that. Would you be willing to interview so and so about their new project? I’ve lost track of how many email lists I’ve unsubscribed from in an attempt to gain control of my inbox and again… it’s been four years.

Preview: Resident Alien: An Alien in New York
By Dustin Cabeal
Welcome to an exclusive preview of Resident Alien: An Alien in New York! If I'm not mistaken, this is the fifth volume of the Resident Alien series. I have followed and reviewed damn near every issue of this series, and it is one of my favorites from Dark Horse. Now, I'm not going to drone on and one about what the series is about because it's worth reading on your own, but the title, tends to do most of the work. I will say that if you've never read the series, you can pretty much jump on with any volume. There is an over-arching story that's being told, but every mystery is self-contained to that volume.

FUN.com's DC and Marvel Coats Are On Sale
By Dustin Cabeal
It's rare that I write about anything nerdom related that isn't a review. My time as it is just doesn't allow for the same dedication. I'd previously written about these jackets and suits and discussed them on a former iteration of the Comic Bastards Podcast. Needless to say before even thinking about writing this post, I fucking bought some coats. I don't even need fucking coats but I bought coats!! I'm dead serious, I saw the prices and was like, "Fuck yeah." The whole dang family is getting coats! Check it out, if you don't, more coats for me. Suits too, but I'm not skinny enough to wear any of their suits so I'm just a fat guy looking into the window that is the internet...
Again, none of this is sponsored, just some cool comic shit I'm excited about... for once!

Preview: Sink #1 Out Today!
By Dustin Cabeal
I'll be honest; I thought Sink was already out. Sometimes I'm lost in the bubble of the inside baseball that is the site, and so I don't know when anything releases. That said, you should fucking pick this book up. If you need more convincing, then read the preview or my reviews for the first three issues below. To give you an idea of how damn good Sink is, it's in the running for my best book of the year.

Traveling Stories To Offer Double SDCC Entries Until Wednesday
By Dustin Cabeal
You may have noticed the ad on the right-hand side that says, "Win Passes to San Deigo Comic-Con". Well, that ad is legit you can be entered to win passes to SDCC by donating to Traveling Stories an organization that wants to encourage literacy and fights poverty. I don't actually need to write this article, but I like their organization and they've made their initial goal of funding which is great, but they're close to being fully funded for a year, which will take care of over 500 kids. Here are some details:

Harbinger War 2 Has A Much Better Font Than Harbinger War 1
By Dustin Cabeal
These are teaser images so there's not a lot to say, but I do appreciate the crispness of that font. Otherwise, I'm just wondering how X-O grows that damn hand back and returns to earth in time for this event? Also, I fucking hope Livewire kills Bloodshot, that series has been shit since Swierczynski left.

Ghost City Comics Competition Now Open!
By Dustin Cabeal
You may remember my post a week ago announcing our sponsorship of the Ghost City Comics Competition, if not then read this article (Here).
If you're unfamiliar with it, then here's some information below and the link to submit your comic into the competition!

Ghost City Comics Competition - Starting May 20th
By Dustin Cabeal
Co-Founders Michael Ruiz-Unger & Tucker Tota have put together a comic book contest in the vein of a movie contest. That's the best way to look at this competition because frankly, there's not many, if any, others out there like this. We're a sponsor in that I'll be reviewing the winners of the contest. To be clear, I'm not judging the contest. No, that's an impressive list starting with Jason Aaron and ending with Max Sarin. You can read the full list and get all of the details by visiting GhostCityComics.com and let me tell you, you should do that. If you have an entry then get it ready for submission on the 20th of this month.

Live Blog: Valiant Summit 2017
By Levi Remington
Today at 2 pm ET / 11 am PT, I'll be at Twitch TV's Hyper RPG Studio in Los Angeles for Valiant's third annual #ValiantSummit media event, where you can expect a "blockbuster line-up" of reveals from guests like Christos Gage (Netflix's Daredevil), Eric Heisserer (Secret Weapons), Jody Houser (Faith), and Matt Kindt (X-O Manowar).

Marvel Releases Some Creepy Mary Jane Watson Variant Covers
By Dustin Cabeal
Ew, themed variants! That pays the bills folks. That and when you've run out of iconic covers just go back and mine them over and over again... and then again and again. While I think it's great that MJ is getting some love, most of these covers are creepy looking. I posted comments all over them so enjoy that shit, or not, don't care.

Support Indie Comics: Check out Aztlan!
By Dustin Cabeal
What a time to be alive when the first thing I have to tell you is "full disclosure, I know this dude." That is what I have to do, though; I know the writer of Aztlan, Pablo Arriaga. He's written reviews, articles, and interviews for Comic Bastards and a great digital friend of mine. That is to say; we've never actually met in person.

Preview: Action Lab's Brigands #4
By Dustin Cabeal
I read the first issue of this series and it wasn't bad. If I wasn't reading a couple dozen books each week I might have kept up with it, but as it is I'll likely just sit down with issues 2-4 and reading them altogether. Speaking of issue 4, we have an exclusive preview below for you to check out!

Dynamite Teases Something - Day 2
By Dustin Cabeal
The wording attached to this teaser was, "Nothing Lasts Forever..." which again, sounds more like you're a company is closing or being bought than an event teaser, but hey... none of my business. I'm going to take a swing in the dark and say that Dynamite is doing a shared universe or something... or it's just the most epic teaser for something new and we won't have any context to go with these teasers to make us care. Either way.

Dynamite Teases Something - Day 1
By Dustin Cabeal
Sigh... seriously comic industry. Ya gotta come up with better marketing. Don't, I repeat, don't take a page out of Marvel's marketing book because that's the worst one to copy. I'll admit, my heart skipped a beat reading the words "All thing end...", but probably not for the right reason. I was thinking Dynamite was getting bought or some shit, but instead... comic event. Yay, just what we need, another publisher doing a comic event... during the summer. See ya tomorrow for the next teaser.

Preview: The Wild Storm #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Well... I just shit my pants a little. I know everyone and their mother had this yesterday and probably bored you with a regurgitation of Warren Ellis' newsletter. I'm not a news site. Not going to pretend I'm breaking this to you. I just post stuff I enjoy or when I have a comment on something. Here's my comment for this... god damn beautiful. I hope the story is good. It's Ellis. It's WildStorm... it should be good. I actually found an old WildStorm button I had gotten at SDCC... it made me sad that there's not more of it around. Still, can't wait until February 15th for this. Oh and I don't actually care about the variants, but I will likely pick this up in print.

Jupiter Jet - A 16-Year-Old Girl With A Jet Pack!
By Dustin Cabeal
Alright, alright, I know I said I wouldn't do any more kickstarters, but hey... every now and again I'm going to find one that needs to be pushed or cool people to support. I don't know much about Jupiter Jet that isn't in the video below or the press release that follows, but I do know one of the writer's (Jason Inman) and he's a hell of a dude. Check out the Kickstarter by heading to www.jupiterjetcomic.com and support the book if you're interested.

This Is Your Second Chance To Get The Comic Bastards Variant For Star Bastard #2!
By Dustin Cabeal
Andrew Clemson is back on Kickstarter with Star Bastard #2. He's lowered the goal, meet the goal and still offering the Comic Bastards exclusive cover. If you enjoy the site, then please, head over to the kickstarter and pledge to get the cover. I enjoyed the first issue of the series and I'm looking forward to reading the second issue and getting my copy of the variant from my own personal pledge. If you need more info, well that's why there's a video below.

Pussycats Returns With A New Mini-Series This March (NSFW)
By Dustin Cabeal
Vince Brusio's Pussycats is back with a new two-issue mini-series that will ship in March of this year. As you might have already noticed the variant covers for this series feature real models dressed as the characters from the comic and were quite popular among readers. Interestingly enough, there's going to be a wider range of covers this time around as "Store Safe" covers have been added making it easier for retailers to display the book out in the open.

Follow The Secret Empire... To The Bathroom
By Dustin Cabeal
I give DC it's fair amount of ribbing so I figured, why not include Marvel in that again? What the fuck is the secret empire? Don't know, don't care. I can't believe that Marvel is still making their interns crank out this bullshit marketing campaigns using words or short sentences. At least they did them all at once rather than sending my six emails. I can't wait to not care about this! X-Citing times indeed.

IDW's TMNT 100 Project Is Interesting
By Dustin Cabeal
Before I get into why it's interesting, let's cover what the project is. Basically, a hundred artists are being asked to draw the Turtles to help raise funds for the Hero Initiative. Now, the Hero Initiative is to help comic creators in need. Why are they in need you ask? Let's just keep it short and simple and say that the overall structure of what makes the comic industry run is pretty broken, but that a fix would probably shutter the industry at the same time.
