Review: Saekano: How To Raise A Boring Girlfriend S2 E.00-01
By Dustin Cabeal
The first season of Saekano was very enjoyable up until the Cousin character was added. After that, it just became a dense man surrounded by beautiful women and not fighting off their advances, but just playing dead and each of them taking turns trying to pounce him while the others fought each other. It ceased being enjoyable at that point, but I finished the season hoping that they would lay the groundwork for something more. That something more was just that “hey, we haven’t made that game yet… so we’re going to keep doing that.”

Review: Tokyo Ghoul vol. 12
By Dustin Cabeal
Well, well, well, this is a very interesting volume of Tokyo Ghoul. After the last volume, it seemed as if the manga and the anime had finally gone their separate ways, but here comes volume twelve smashing those expectations and continuing the comparison. What remains incredible about this brand is that even though the anime differs in a lot of ways from the manga, there has yet to be a point in which I firmly feel that one did something better than the other. The anime is good for its own reasons and so it the manga. The manga, whether you believe it or not, is really unlike any other mainstream manga on the market which explains at least some of its popularity.

Review: Weekly Shonen Jump no. 20
By Dustin Cabeal
Last week I decided to skip Weekly Shonen Jump since it only had two stories that I review gracing its pages. Which was a shame because both stories were quite good, but I just didn’t have the time or motivation. It did mark the first new ongoing story from the last bunch of Jump Start titles, but more interesting is that this issue sees the addition of two more series. If you recall my ranking article (read: Comic Bastards’ Winter 2017 Jump Start Series Rankings) I placed all three in my top three. I did mention that I had a feeling that due to the art alone that Dr. Stone would likely be the one series to make it and that was true last week when it was revealed as the first series. No idea if that means it was the most popular, but it was the first to be published either way. Now, on to this volume of Weekly Shonen Jump.

Review: You & A Bike & A Road
By Sarah Miller
Life is a series of moments in time, strung together by our memories to form a narrative that suits the story we tell ourselves about ourselves. What happens when those moments are captured on the page one by one as they happen, rather than being collected all at once when the perceived narrative arc is already over? In deceptively simple sketches, Eleanor Davis answers this question as she tells the story of her cross-country journey from Tucson, Arizona, to Athens, Georgia. You & A Bike & A Road is a diary comic that lets us into Davis’s mind as she confronts the challenges inherent in such a physically and mentally strenuous undertaking. Her story is told as a series of moments that add up to what seems at first glance like a simple cycling narrative, but which at second glance proves to be a series of existential questions about identity and belonging. “I want to bike fast and draw beautifully,” she says, and so she does, in the process revealing the splendour and inescapability of both our physical and conceptual selves.

Review: Fukumenkei Noise E.01
By Shanel Kamara
Finally, it’s here! I’ve been waiting for more than a year for the release of the anime adaption of Fukumenkei Noise, and it’s finally here. Naturally, I had certain expectations for the show that is an adaption of a fairly popular and ongoing drama romance manga. However, before I delve into whether episode 1 met, partially met, or exceeded my expectations, I’ll briefly explain what Fukumenkei Noise’s plot is about.

Unboxing: Loot Wear - March 2017
By Dustin Cabeal
Oh, hey I'm kinda on time for Loot Wear this month! Listen, this is the one to get, but they changed everything. I'm not even sure what will be showing up next month, but if you're going to do a Loot subscription, pick one of the wear options, or both if you've got mad fucking money. I'm wearing one of the shirts right now, it's alright... not great, but it's alright. Also, the first pair of socks I cover didn't fit. They didn't stretch enough to make it past my normal size ankle which was weird, they might have been for women, but now I'll never know since the bag is in the trash, always read the trash!

Review: Helena Crash #2
By Jonathan Edwards
I was somewhat surprised by Helena Crash #2. The first issue was by no means bad, but there wasn't necessarily that much to it either. We got a sense of the world, a general idea of Helena's character, and a little bit of plot at the end. It was enough to want to see what happens next, but I had yet to be really hooked. To be completely honest, this one didn't completely do that either. However, what it did do was build interestingly off of what we saw last time, and it got me more thoroughly engaged from the get go.

Review: Clear Boards - Slab Pro
By Dustin Cabeal
I'm trying some more video reviews for products that are best described with visuals. The clear board is a product for comic collectors that want to see all sides of the comic, which is particularly great with the resell market since you don't have to open the bag to look at the full book. Anyway, the video will do the rest of the work, but I thought it was a product worth talking about. Thanks for watching!

Review: Dominion of Giants - Adult Coloring Book
By Dustin Cabeal
I'm trying something new today, here's a review for Dominion of Giants, which is a fantasy coloring book for adults. Now, it's not "adult" themed which is probably what you're thinking, but more in line with crazy of coloring books for mature people. The video will cover the review so check it out.
