Review: She Wolf #6
By Jonathan Edwards
Let me start by saying that, after reading this, last issue's "part 2" feels even more pointless. I thought that its inclusion meant two parallel stories going on, meaning that this month we'd get a "part 3" following Lizzie and a "part 4" jumping back to whatever was going on with those other characters I don't care about. So you can imagine my surprise when that didn't happen, and in its place we get a completely disconnected short one-shot about a guy who sells corpses to a doctor for research or whatever. And yet, as far as I'm concerned, that actually worked way better. The logic is simple; instead of changing practically everything but telling us it's (somehow) still part of the story, we get two distinct stories for the price of one. And with that short rant completed, the review may now commence.

Review: The Old Guard #1
By Daniel Vlasaty
What do you do if you’re an immortal warrior? Not much you can do, so you go on fighting, hoping that your next fight, your next war, your next job will be the one that finally brings you death.

Review: Curse Words #2
By Dustin Cabeal
After reading Patrick’s review for the first issue, my interest was certainly piqued. I used to read a lot of titles from Charles Soule, but his big two stuff hasn’t interested me in the least bit. His return to Image and teaming with Ryan Browne got my attention.

Review: Justice League of America #1
By Jonathan Edwards
I'm disappointed. After all the buildup (which I've already talked about at length in my reviews of all five JLA: Rebirth one-shots), I was at least expecting a more intricately build plot from the main book. Instead, we got this. I really have to wonder what point there is in having full issues devoted to setting up characters, when very little of what was in them carries over. I guess one would have slightly more context for the clumsy exposition when it's still thrown in, but that's negligible and inapplicable to those already familiar with the characters. Honestly, I'm amazed how lackluster this turned out to be. I went from "hopeful of the possibilities presented by this team up" to "might not even keep reading" in one issue.

Review: The Belfry
By Chris Tresson
Hello there and welcome to my review of The Belfry, a one-shot comic which is being released by Image Comics this week. Belfry is written and drawn by Gabriel Hardman, a man whose work I’m not entirely a stranger to. I’d seen Gabriel talking about this on Twitter and thought it looked interesting so when I found out it was out this week, I decided I was going to review it for Comic Bastards. Here we go…

Review: Deathstroke #13
By Dustin Cabeal
Ah, cover interaction. Remember when that was special? And then Marvel had five covers every week with it, and DC was soon to follow? Well since I gave up reading Marvel and DC until recently, it’s now become special again! Maybe it’s just the fact that I like this book and the kick looks like collateral damage, like a lamp being knocked off in a fight.

Review: Supergirl: Being Super #2
By Jonathan Edwards
I went into Supergirl Being Super eager to become more familiar with the title character. With the first issue, I wasn't completely satisfied with the pace and characterization, and I wasn't hooked by the end. When I was looking at this week's releases to review, I was initially planning on skipping this one. I don't think I even intended to check it own for my own personal reading. I don't really have a good reason for why I ultimately had a change of heart, but I'm glad that I did. The main thing I was worried about last time was the potential for it to continue at a plodding pace, but this issue has removed that reservation. And while that doesn't necessarily make the first issue better, it does increase my enthusiasm for the series as a whole.

Review: Loose Ends #2
By Daniel Vlasaty
I like good crime fiction. I read it, I write it, I watch it. I am a fan of the genre because I believe that it shows up what a person is made of. It breaks right through all the bullshit and shows you the true nature of a person, what’s really in his or her mind and heart. Loose Ends is right up there with the best of them. It’s a book with a lot of characters and they’re all after something else (though we as the readers aren’t given all the information on what that may or may not be yet). Plus, it’s a beautiful book that’s gritty and violent, everything I look for in the genre.

Valiant Teases ICONS
By Dustin Cabeal
I feel sorry for all those sites that right for the SEO and that will have to come up with like 550 words to make this teaser worth it. I don't have shit to say. There's nothing to say other than yes, those are their biggest brands at the moment. We'll wait for more.

Review: Batman #17
By Daniel Vlasaty
Batman #17 is the second issue of the “I am Bane” storyline. Issue #16 had a more light and comedic tone (except for the last page), and there is a definite tonal change from that issue to this one. Here it is back to business as usual as Batman continues to prepare for the coming of Bane.

Review: Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen E.07
By Shanel Kamara
It's official; I am completely hooked on Shouwa! I loved the unexpected twist this episode. I knew the death of Konatsu’s parents was a delicate matter that weighed heavily on the characters minds, particularly Konatsu who blamed Yakuma for the demise of her father and Yakumo who blamed himself for not being able to save Konatsu’s parents despite being in such close proximity to them. However, I never suspected that the truth regarding the manner in which they died was different to what actually happened.

Dark Horse Announces "Berger Books" From Karen Berger
By Dustin Cabeal
Okay, I'll be the one to say it. That name sucks. I get it, it's her name and there's nothing to be done about that, but Berger Books sounds like "Burger Books" and let's be honest that's not a great title unless you're being goofy. Otherwise, I'm not excited about this until a book is announced. The reason being is that I read Surgeon X and it was one of the worst things I've read... and Karen Berger edited that book. I'm not going to judge prematurely, but I'm also not going to get hyped prematurely either.

Tekken Comic Book Creative Team Announced
By Dustin Cabeal
Ah man, I think I'm going to be stupid and pre-order this game. I mean, Akuma... come on! As for the comic, I'll read it, but I won't pretend to be excited. I've read Tekken comics before and they were shit; now I have lowered expectations.

Funko Comic Book Universe... Is Now A Thing
By Dustin Cabeal
So... toys of pop culture nerdom are now a comic book... of the same pop culture nerdom? Why would anyone do this? Rhetorical, it's money. The question is why would anyone buy it? Rhetorical again, because IDW has some of the loyalist fans with the loosest wallets... that's not a compliment by the way.

Misfit City Announced - You Had Me At "The Writer of 10 Things I Hate About You"
By Dustin Cabeal
Seriously, like most people my age I like 10 Things I Hate About You. Okay, maybe not most guys since I've yet to meet another dude that didn't just watch the movie because of a woman he was dating, but I legit like the film. I don't, however, care for a movie writer working on comic books. While this gave me tingles of nostalgia for movie reasons, it's not exciting my comic buttons just yet. I'll wait until I read it, though.

Super S - Anime Podcast E.019
By Dustin Cabeal
As always, you'll need to head to our podcast dedicated page to actually listen to the episode, but here's what you're missing!
E.019 - Today on the show we talk about shirts! That's right, everyone got new shirts. After that's its anime talk and a genre recommendation. Also you'll have to excuse us because Lindsay has a cold or the flu or something and I just butcher words... constantly.
