Review: Brave Chef Brianna #3
By Dustin Cabeal
Well basically everything I said would happen in my second review happened in this issue which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that’s been reading the series. It’s been very obvious. Sometimes that’s a good thing. It shows that the writer is leading us somewhere and allowing us to feel a part of the story as we “figure it out” while reading. That is not the case here. It’s just that obvious.

BOOM! Studios and Saban Brands Debut Second Ongoing Power Rangers Series
BOOM! Studios and Saban Brands announce SABAN’S GO GO POWER RANGERS, an all-new ongoing comic book series that will debut in July 2017 and is based on the original, hit TV series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.” The series will explore the transition of the original five Rangers from ordinary high schoolers to world-saving superheroes. Ryan Parrott (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy) returns to BOOM! Studios and the Power Rangers franchise after his work on the sold-out, original graphic novel, Power Rangers: Aftershock, which followed the release of the 2017 feature film, “Saban’s Power Rangers.” Parrott is teaming with Russ Manning Award-winning artist Dan Mora (WWE, Klaus).
Review: Coady & The Creepies #2
By Levi Remington
Have you been clamoring for a mediocre, all-ages, punk-rock, pin-collecting adventure with a bevy of authentically juvenile jokes and shoehorned supernatural twists? Have I got the title for you! Read ahead for my thoughts on Coady and the Creepies #2 (of 4) while I name my cat Ichabod, finish my friend's sandwiches, and "double groan" the whole way through.

Review: Grass Kings #2
By Daniel Vlasaty
Grass Kings is back with its second issue. If you read my review for issue #1, you’ll know that I loved it, and that I have high hopes for this book moving forward. I was excited to see this title come up on the review list and jumped at the opportunity to get back out to the Grass Kingdom. Second issues are tricky things, I think. These are the issues that really set the tone for a book, because first issues are all about hooking the reader. But second issues have to slow it down a bit and give readers something to latch onto. Usually second issues will take a step back and spend some time on character development. And that’s exactly what issue #2 of Grass Kings does.

Review: Godshaper #1
By Dustin Cabeal
It’s not hyperbole to say that Godshaper is one of the most unique comics I’ve ever read. Whereas a lot of Simon Spurrier’s work at BOOM! has been fringe sci-fi stories, this one is much more grounded. The reason it works though is that the artist is so fucking talented. This story lives or dies by Jonas Goonface’s artwork.

Review: Brave Chef Brianna #2 (of 4)
By Dustin Cabeal
The plot for this second issue was lost on me. It seems to be manufactured to bring Brianna and Suzan together on a united front, but the biggest question that the series has presented continues to go unanswered. Is Brianna breaking the “monster rules” and cooking with flour and sugar and other things that make food tasty?

Review: Lady Castle #2
By Dustin Cabeal
Whether Lady Castle was planned to be bi-monthly or if there was a delay between issue one and two is unknown to me. What is known, is that after two months I had very little memory of Lady Castle and barely any interest in reviewing the issue. Having bitten firmly down on the bullet, though, here we are, and you know what? Lady Castle is alright.

BOOM! Studios Announces Mouse Guard ABC's Book... Meh
By Dustin Cabeal
There was a time in which I would have found this cool, but since it's been years since any new Mouse Guard stories came out and even longer since one that wasn't a "Tales of the Guard" I can't really pretend to care about this. Maybe if it was a finished work and this was a nice piece for fans, but it seems like a waste of time and money.

Review: Death Be Damned #2
By Laramie Martinez
After reading the first issue I thought I knew what kind of story Death be Damned was going to be. And despite a warning from Andrew Miller over on Twitter, I went into issue two thinking that I was going to get more of the same. And while there was plenty of zombies and shootouts, there are some key revelations which take this series to another level of uncanny.

Preview: Godshaper #1 and More Covers
By Dustin Cabeal
I couldn't care less about the covers, but I'm enjoying getting a look inside the comic. I wonder who is coloring it as it looks a lot like the color on Daniel Bayliss' art for BOOM! Even without the lettering I'm digging what the story is presenting and can't wait to check this one out.

BOOM! Announces A "Clueless" Comic... Because The TV Show Wasn't Enough
By Dustin Cabeal
Well... we had a good run folks. The entertainment industry is just eating its own shit now and Clueless is the latest victim. Anyone that's excited for this is an idiot. Plan and simple. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie like I don't know, EVERYONE ELSE THAT GREW UP IN THE FUCKING 90S! But I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, wondered what the characters decided for college. Nor did I want to see that in comic book form.

BOOM! Studios Announces "The Unsound"
BOOM! Studios is proud to announce THE UNSOUND, an all-new original comic book series from writer Cullen Bunn (X-Men: Blue, Deadpool, The Sixth Gun) and artist Jack T. Cole. Debuting in June, The Unsound follows the journey of Ashli, a young woman caught in the middle of a strange supernatural conspiracy that reveals to her a much more terrifying version of our world than she ever imagined.

Review: Coady and the Creepies #1
By Daniel Vlasaty
I’d like to start this review by saying that Coady and the Creepies isn’t really the kind of comic book I normally read. But I’ve also noticed that some of my reviews here on the site are getting repetitive and redundant. So, this week I decided to read something different. I wanted to try something new and fun and lighthearted. I hadn’t heard anything at all about this book, so I went in without knowing what to expect.

Be A Creepie - Coady And The Creepies Out This Week from BOOM!
By Dustin Cabeal
I actually really liked the song and I dig Liz Prince's work so even though I'm not reviewing this title for the site, I'll be reading it.

Review: Grass Kings #1
By Daniel Vlasaty
The Grass Kingdom isn’t a place you want to go, unless you’re given permission to be there. The Grass Kingdom is a small, isolated community. They don’t tolerate trespassers or tourists or outsiders of any kind. The people of the Grass Kingdom live off the grid and they set their own laws. It’s a place where “everyone has a say,” even though that usually turns out to be the opposite in places like this. Places like this are set up to look like they’re equal, but mostly that means there’s some ruthless dictator (or self-appointed “king”) who’s actually calling the shots. Usually, places like this never turn out good.

Oversized Review: Justice League of America #2 & Justice League/Power Rangers #3
By Jonathan Edwards
I decided to try out something a little different this week. Justice League of America and Justice League/Power Rangers are both books I've technically been reviewing since January. Back then, my receptions of the two series were fairly contrasting, with the JLA one-shots starting on the stronger side and JL/PR being crap. However, after the successive drops in quality that were Justice League of America: Rebirth #1 and Justice League of America #1, Steve Orlando's team up series is more or less on par with DC and Boom!'s mediocre crossover (not to be confused with Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern, their outright awful crossover). And, since both of these "Justice League" books also portray Batman as making bad decisions and dimension hopping antagonists, I might as well try something a bit different with them. That is, smash them together to review at the same time.

Review: Brave Chef Brianna #1 (of 4)
By Dustin Cabeal
If you’re planning on reading Brave Chef Brianna, stay to the end. The reason I say that is it took over half of the issue to hook me on reading this series. That’s not to say that there aren’t some stumbles along the way, in the end, I was sold on reading the next three issues in the mini-series from BOOM! Box.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Co-Creator Reimagines "Jane Eyre" at BOOM!
By Dustin Cabeal
Don't get me wrong, I'm curious about this graphic novel. Here's the but, BOOM! has been announcing a lot of Hollywood writers on their comics and that's disheartening. Even when I didn't love something the publisher published I always respected the fact that they were still heavy on the comic book development side of the business. The broke in new writers and artists yearly, but now... from the writer of Legally Blonde, from the co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It's like they're patrolling the back lots of Fox looking for writers. I'm not excited by this because it's starting to look like a trend. We'll see, ECCC is just around the corner.
