Clean, crisp and quiet.  The three words that I use, to sum up, “The Resurrected” by Christian Carnouche. The tale is compacted into 24 pages and unfortunately does not give everything to be classified as a “book.”  Instead, I consider this beginning to be chapter one of a potential long-standing sci-fi thriller that just makes you want to keep exploring the creator’s mind. But in any case, I’m glad the author let his imagination create an alternative future that wasn’t globally post-apocalyptic nor was entirely technologically realistic. The way Carnouche created his world reminded me of a combination between “The Fifth Element” and “Ben 10” with the use of futuristic and sci-fi elements.  But I must digress in the fact that the story does live it up to the three words.

Today, DC announces Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years a Slave, Let It Fall) will examine the DC mythology with a compelling new literary comics miniseries, THE OTHER HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE. The story will analyze iconic DC moments and chart sociopolitical gains through the perspectives of DC Super Heroes who come from traditionally disenfranchised groups, including John Stewart, Extraño, Vixen, Supergirl, Katana and Rene Montoya among others. At its core, the series focuses on the lives of those behind the costumes, and their endeavors to overcome real-world issues.

After a few disappointing episodes, it finally led to some to great ones that we’ve been waiting for. Episode 121 gives a perfect set up for the showdown between the last remaining universes, 7 and 11. Universe 3 releases their trump card that was surprisingly acceptable and a worthwhile fight against universe 7’s warriors. For the latest episode, Vegeta intervenes in Goku’s fight between Jiren and delivers some intense Saiyan action that leaves us on the edge.

It's funny how so many of the manga, and really the anime adaptations of the manga, that I’ve been recommending for a few years are finally catching on. Black Clover’s anime adaptation is extremely popular for some goddamn reason. I wrote about why it’s one of the most terrible things to ever be done to a property (read here) and then I gave it the top spot on my Worst Anime of 2017 list (read here). Still, people are coming around on it, be it an inferior version of this fantastic manga.

I have always been a sucker for samurai stories. As the years have gone on, I tend to stick with the ones coming straight out of Japan, but I still check out a variety of other tales told by creators that like myself, enjoy a good samurai story. It’s just that it’s rare that they’re enjoyable or not filled with Wikipedia notes and definitions.

Before The End of the F***ing World was a genre-bending, international smash hit on Netflix and Channel 4, it was the 2013 critically-acclaimed graphic novel by Charles Forsman, published (without the asterisks) by Fantagraphics Books! Re-released this past fall in a new hardcover edition, the book flew off the shelves within 24 hours of the hit series’ debut on Netflix last Friday (the YouTube trailer, which debuted the day before the series, has been viewed almost six million times as of this writing). As a result, an ambitious third printing of The End of the Fucking World has been expedited and will hit stores in early February.
