WB Announces The Flash: The Complete Fourth Season

Review: The Flash #46

Flash War has not even started yet, and because of this issue my current favorite Flash arc of this run (Button fallowed by Running Scared) might soon be getting replaced. This issue made me giddier than most all the issues of The Flash thus far. It felt like getting a wish list for everything wanted in a story and seeing it all come true and working as well as it does. Joshua Williamson’s Flash has always seemed to be a somewhat average comic with such greatness ready to spring out, and now it has and makes me eager for what is coming next.

Review: The Flash #45

Perfect Storm is over. The last several issues which all seemed to tie up several elements of Williamson’s story has ended. We all know it is leading up to the epic Flash War. This issue is all about lead up, nothing epic about it. Flash War still has yet to start, and Perfect Storm ended so now we are dealing with the aftermath as we catch up with a few characters. One character, in particular, is mainly there just to lead into yet another title (for more information, instead of getting the review promised here, go see Teen Titans Special #1 in June). This is comics, and there are several lead-ins to various other lead-ins. That’s fine, but this is all this issue is. If it was a chessboard, it is just moving pawns up a spot or two. Luckily the later the issue goes we see a tiny bit more stuff happen, inevitable stuff, but still really glad for it too.

Review: The Flash Annual #1

Whenever I see an annual issue, I always assume that the creators are setting up for a major event in a series (or two). The Flash Annual is no exception to this, which just further affirms that belief for me. From the title (Who Remembers Wally West) it’s pretty clear that this is going to be a Wally heavy issue, though likely the other Flash’s will be making their appearances as well (especially since they are setting up for a major event).

Review: DC Holiday Special 2017 #1

It’s December, so that means ‘tis the season for holiday specials like this one, and ‘tis the season for starting reviews off with the phrase “’tis the season.” In the wake of Rebirth last year, I was looking forward to DC’s DC Rebirth Holiday Special #1. It seemed like a great way to celebrate the season and the overall success of the relaunch. Unfortunately, if my LCS had gotten any copies (I didn’t ask, but I’m sure they did), they’d sold out of them before I got there. This was also before I started reviewing for Comic Bastards (if only barely), so I didn’t have access to any review copies. Oh well, I told myself, and I figured it maybe wouldn’t have turned out to be that good of a read anyway. In retrospect, that seems like an unnecessarily sour attitude to take during the most wonderful time of the year. And, the best way I can think of to make up for that is to take an optimistic look at DC Holiday Special 2017 #1.

Review: The Flash #31

This issue wraps up the negative speed force storyline and sets up a new series. Issues 30 and 31 were a short arc to segue into the next arc starting in issue 32. Bloodwork was a two-issue arc that stood pretty well on its own. Even if the villain was pretty two-dimensional.

Review: Batman: The Red Death #1

The premise for this comic is pretty simple: Earth-52 Batman (Dark Knight Returns Batman) is fed up with his lack of progress with his war on crime. He has lost everyone he’s loved, and he’s had no success. He literally believes if he had the speed force he’d be able to do better. Batman spends the first half of the book fighting Flash for it. He rigs the cosmic treadmill to the Batmobile; his plan is to drive so fast he catches up to the speed force? It’s a superhero comic; I’ll let it go. I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying he sort of gets what he wants. He and Flash merge, and Batman Red Death is born. This is an exceptionally dark take on Batman. He kills all the bad guys in his universe, then, after getting a little motivation from the Batman Who Laughs, he decides to take on Earth-0, where he goes full on evil.

Wow, they're just getting back to this huh? I honestly forgot about the "mystery" surrounding the rebirthing of DC. Still not sure how the Comedian's button fits into everything... because wouldn't he be dead? And if I fucked with your universe, why would I leave a calling card? Whatever, I hope you're in love with Tom King like everyone else is because DC got tired of waiting for Johns to write this shit and gave it to King.
