Review: Cloaks #2

Besides breaking out of a pair of handcuffs, there’s not much magic to this issue, the stage kind or any other. While the first issue showed signs of promise, the follow-up already seems to be sinking in to some clichés of the spy thriller genre while offering up little in entertainment value.

Review: Nailbiter #6

What I love so much about this comic is Warren. I even love Warren and Crane’s relationship. Although very odd, it seems like these two have a crazy history and may have even dated. Now I don’t think these two will ever date again or even flirt for that matter.

Review: The Woods #6

The focus of the second arc of The Woods has revealed its focus and made for some great storytelling. It’s clear at this point that the arc will focus on a single character per an issue and develop that character. With the first arc ending after four issues we’ll just have to wait and see if all of the characters are covered this arc, but one thing is clear… you will have a new favorite character each damn issue.

Review: The Fade Out #2

I was impressed with how well the first issue of The Fade Out came across. After the success of Fatale with Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, I thought their next story may not live up to such an intense story. But I have to say that my love for Fatale has faded over into this new series. It was just as intense and highly engaging.

Review: God Hates Astronauts #2

God Hates Astronauts issue 2 is every bit the madcap follow-up to the first issue that we’ve all hoped for, nay, prayed for. There are more crab attackers from Crabulon, there’s Doctor Professor with a 70’s mustache AND a full-on crazy person beard, there’s a super powered baby, and there’s the triumphant return of the Anti-Mugger.

Review: Bloodshot #24

Sometimes enjoying a single issue can be the best thing in comics and a single issue among an ongoing series can help just bring in some new readers. Another reason is you get the best of a character you love in one nice package.

Review: TMNT #38

Excited doesn’t come close to what I felt when seeing Old Hob on this week’s cover. I don’t know what it is about this furball, but his story and character is definitely one of my favorites. If you remember a couple of issues ago, Hob was experimenting with Splinter’s blood and the extra ooze.

Review: Captain Midnight #15

Something big happens in this issue… I mean sure, we get a new villain that is introduced at the end that has been pulling some strings previously, and we get a very fine wrap up on this story arc in the form of a good old-fashioned western showdown (Cue the western music). All that was awesome, but I am talking about something entirely different that happens in this issue that makes it special.

Review: Sex #16

I have been a fan of Joe Casey and Piotr Kowalski’s story that is part Batman, part Sin City, and part Fifty Shades of Grey, yet all original in its presentation. I have found the writing to be detailed and complex evolving way farther from its original “nudie book” feeling that I fear it classified as from time to time.

Review: Drumhellar #9

Of all the comics that I reviewed this week, I have to say that the cover to Drumhellar #9 has been hands down the best one I saw. It is absolutely perfect and really sums up what lies within the pages of this issue. I was ready for it.
