Review: The Mice Templar #14
Last month I caught up on the entire story arc that’s currently running in Mice Templar’s fourth volume and it was pretty damn good. It was so good that I scored the entire arc as a 5 out of 5.
Review of Veil #5
I decided to give Veil a shot because my life seemed as if it could do with some more of Greg Rucka’s writing outside of Lazarus. Little did I know how foolish it’d be for me to step into this story on the fifth issue.
Review: Trees #6
You know that sound you make when you have a fantastic piece of chocolate? The one where you hang your mouth open and it’s almost like a mini orgasm that you’re having all from a piece of chocolate? Be honest you know what I’m talking about. Well that’s how I feel after reading Trees each month. It inspires that “it’s so good” sound, but then also the one of crushing disappointment as it’s over just as you reach for more.
Review: Unity #0
Something that I really enjoy about the creative medium is when the title of something is worked into the story. I don’t just mean when a character cheesily says the title like, “I guess you could say that’s where the red ferns grow”*, though that makes me chuckle as well.
Review: Supreme Blue Rose #4
The first thing you have to understand before approaching Ellis and Lotay’s take on Supreme is that it must be read as a comic book. I know that statement might sound self-evident or redundant, but I mean it more structurally.
Review: Criminal Macabre – The Third Child #2
Wowzers this issue packs a punch. There was a time in which Steve Niles could do no wrong and took the comic world by storm. Now I don’t think he’s lost a step, but with any creator you become exposed to a large body of their work and they either have to evolve at a faster rate or you need to limit your exposure.
Review: Lumberjanes #7
Lumberjanes #7 is out and finally we get some answers! The issue opens with a super-secret mission: the five friends of Roanoke Cabin plus camp counselor Jen and fellow Lumberjane Diane team up to break into Rosie’s cabin to steal the mysterious, magical crystal.
Review: Doomboy
I’m going to start off with a bold statement… Doomboy is one of the best comic books/graphic novels I’ve ever read. That’s not an exaggeration or over hype either. Doomboy is the embodiment of everything that seasoned comic readers want from a comic and everything a new reader should expect.
Review: Mishka and the Sea Devil
The best way I can describe Mishka and the Sea Devil is whimsical. It’s a lighthearted and fun story that never takes it self seriously and is full of simple moral lessons and plenty of imagination.
Review: TMNT #39
Ok so last issue, Old Hob introduced us to two new mutants he has created. I don’t know exactly how I feel about more mutants coming into the comic, but it was pretty much the only way to go with Hob taking some ooze and Splinter’s blood.
Review: San Hannibal #4
I can count on one hand how many comic books have occupied my mind space for the entire month as I waited upon their release. In my early days of collecting comics the internet hadn’t yet become a reliable resource for releases and my knowledge of the industry and its shipping practices was limited.
Review: Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Witches #2
Woodcutter Mosaku brings his apprentice Minokichi up into the mountains to gather wood. A blizzard rolls in, and the two must find shelter in a cave. The old man regales his apprentice with stories of the Snow Witch that causes such storms. As the two men sleep, the Snow Witch appears and consumes Mosaku’s soul.
Review: Sleepy Hollow #1
The first issue of the Sleepy Hollow comic was just released, and I’m super pumped. Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite shows right now, so I was really excited to see it in comic form! If you don’t watch the show, here’s what you need to know:
Review: Doctor Who – The Twelfth Doctor #1
Well it was only a matter of time before there would be a Doctor Who comic featuring the newest Doctor. With that comes some good and bad, but overall it’s a solid entry into the world of Doctor Who comics from Titan.
Review: Q2 The Return of Quantum & Woody #1
Sometimes, I feel as though I’ve been spoiled. See, I came to the Valiant party pretty late, having only flirted with the publisher’s stuff in the mid-to-late 90s, but jumping aboard with both hands and feet since its relaunch a few years back. In that time, and amongst all of its gems, it was last year’s Quantum and Woody reboot especially that made, in me, a firm fan.
Review: The Evil Within #1
Full disclosure, I don’t know if I’ll end up playing the Bethesda/Tango Gameworks video game of the same name as this comic. I will definitely be back for more after reading this first issue though and will admit to being curious about the game.
Group Review: Avengers & X-Men – Axis #1
If there’s an event book then you know that Comic Bastards is going to review it… for at least one issue. In the wake of New York Comic Con we were delayed in posting this review, but now the three participating writers (Steve, Andrè and Dustin) will all give their thoughts and opinions on Marvel’s latest hype machine event book.
Review: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1
I have never been a fan of Sabrina. Not the show, not the comics and believe me I have tried to enjoy both. Particularly with the show when I would watch it on Friday nights, but only because there was nothing else on and it was one of the nights of the week that I was allowed to watch a lot of TV as a kid. I think I made it one season before I decided to just give up on getting the most out of network television.
Review: Punks: The Comic #1
Let’s kick the jam….DA DA DA DA DA…DO DO DO DO DO …DEE DEE DEE DEE DEE…DOW DOW DOW DOW DOW…
Review: Pirouette #1
I had no idea what to expect from this series going in. I’m not a big fan of clown related stories and no it’s not because of a fear of clowns. I actually find any attempt to make clowns creepy and scary to be the opposite. It’s a cheap scare at best. So when I saw a circus and clowns involved in this story I was hesitant to say the least.
