Review: Itty Bitty Comics #6 – Grimmiss Island #2
Grimiss has a pretty good life as of the start of this issue. He has magical powers, lives on an island, and is in love with the Volcano Goddess.
Review: Red Sonja: Vulture’s Circle #4
Red Sonja: Vulture’s Circle has been an immensely entertaining miniseries within the Red Sonja mythos that addresses a period in Sonja’s life that I do not remember ever being covered.
Review: Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Return #2
I'm still baffled as to why BOOM! decided to split each book in this mini-series into two stories. Especially when the first one is written as if it is canon, yet the second is like the Saturday morning cartoon version of canon (in that it's not).
Review: Savior #1
It may not be that surprising that, I love reading God related stories (since I reviewed Next testament through and through).
Review: Headspace #8
I had to hold back with last week’s review. The comic revealed a lot and I didn’t want to give anything away (at least tried my best not to), so I will be spoiling issue #7 here. If you haven’t read it, then hurry the hell up because dude you are missing out.
Review: Old Wounds #1
If there’s one genre of comic books I don’t usually gravitate towards its indie superhero titles. I’m not going to go into the long list of “whys”, but trust me it’s a difficult genre for anyone to get right. Mostly because you’re competing with companies that only make superhero comics.
Review: Rebels #1
Historically accurate comic books are not my thing. I say that so there’s context to everything else I have to say about Rebels. I have no idea if it’s accurate or not. I don’t, I know a decent amount of history, but nothing deep about any one period of time and so this could all be made up.
Review: The Surface #2
Here’s my confession for the day: I’m a metafiction fanboy. One of my favorite examples, and one of my top ten books of all time, is Alasdair Gray’s Lanark: A Life in Four Books. I even have a quote from it tattooed on my sexy, sexy body.
Review: Creature Cops #3
I didn't catch the first two issues of this book, so I had no idea what I was going to see inside. I heard the name before seeing the cover. I actually wondered if the cops in this were creatures. In case you haven't seen anything to do with this comic yet, they're not.
Review: Imperium #3
If I had to criticize Imperium, that is, ostensibly, what I do after all, it would be that there isn’t a clear line of where this story is going. The first issue sets up a Utopia, so we know where the story ends, and then flashes back to a period of unrest.
Review: ODY-C #4
Another month comes, and another giant, mythological issue of ODY-C is gracing the shelves at your local comic book shop. The poets sing once more, and the story resumes:
Review: Southern Cross #2
On a whim last month, I took a chance with a little suspenseful Sci-Fi story written by Becky Cloonan and drawn by Andy Belanger. As I read it, I discovered that it was quite an excellent undertaking.
Review: Teen Dog #8
Well this is it dude. This is the end of an era. An era that Jake Lawrence has created and Teen Dog has followed out. With my arm held high in the air, I fist pump to you. But in all seriousness, I will miss the hell out of this comic. Lawrence captured pure fun into a bottle and then somehow produced it in this comic.
Review: Big Man Plans #2
If you didn’t read Big Man Plans #1, then you missed out on one of the best things to happen to comics in a long while.
Review: The Four Points #1
The Four Points summed up in one sentence; All-female Planateers from Captain Planet, minus Heart and Captain Planet. It's fairly obvious from the cover that the women in this book control the elements, which is strange that they hide it for most of the issue. The women (or at least one of them) have other powers.
Review: Descender #2
Unlike its first issue, which was largely populated by catastrophic world-splosions and all-powerful robot gods, in Descender #2, Lemire and Nguyen take a much more intimate look at their universe-in-disarray.
Review: Masks 2 #1
Masks 2 is the follow up to the original Masks mini-series (which I didn't read). This mini-series is expected to expand the universe from the first and be a good jumping on point for new readers Masks 2 #1(which it is).
Review: Sleepy Hollow Origins #1
In Sleepy Hollow Origins #1 we glimpse the backstories of our main players. Ichabod, Abbie, Jenny, Henry, and Abraham will all have an origin story that is, presumably, explored further than on the show.
Review: The Legacy of Luther Strode #1
When I saw that The Legacy of Luther Strode released this week my first thought was, “Oh fuck yes!” Really that was my only thought. Unlike some I have been very patient in waiting for this book to debut because this is it folks, this is the last chapter in the trilogy for Luther Strode and I plan to savor every page of it.
Review: Lola XOXO: Wasteland Madam #1
Girl and boyfriend go for a walk. Boyfriend pulls out a ring and proposes. City blows up in background. Boyfriend dies from radiation poisoning, girl doesn't. World goes to shit. Girl dresses up like female Mad Max. Girl turns into a ruthless amazing killing machine.
