Review: Grindhouse: Drive-In, Bleed Out #2
Shayla and her grandmother, Mother Wolf, continue on the revenge quest against the monsters that murdered their family. These fiends, “The Overseer,” “The Clown,” “The Cowboy,” and “the Man Who Walks” personify the vices that mortally affect the lower classes.
CBMFP 164: The Best of 2014
That's right, it's time to look at 2014 and pick the very best in comics... Comic Bastard style! Hopefully you're familiar with our categories as all of them return this year with one addition. Next week we'll have part two of this podcast which is The Worst of 2014, so be on the lookout for that.
Trailer Time: Kingdom of the Wicked
Holy crap I love this concept! Also that tag line is great.
Review: Wayward #5
I feel really bummed about Wayward, and how I think it’s not meeting its full potential with each passing issue. To me, it’s unclear why we should care much about any of these character other than because they fill archetypal sympathetic roles.
Review: Terrible Lizard #2
Wrex (our friendly T-Rex) fights a giant mutant ape. That's pretty much the comic. You have two monsters fighting, and the fight is well done, fun, and....it is two giant monsters fighting! What else do you need in your life? The second half of the comic is adults overreacting and not understanding things followed by a fun montage of Jesse and Wrex bonding and having fun.
Review: The Bigger Bang #2
Before I read this issue, I had to come to terms with the idea that it could not live up to the expectations built up after being blown away by the premiere. That took much longer than I thought it would, and it was only because I had given myself a deadline on writing this review that I finally opened the file to the follow-up, reading it twice in one sitting as is my way with single issues.
Trailer Time: Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter
Not only does this flick have one of the actresses I liked from Pacific Rim, but it looks pretty damn cool.
Trailer Time: The Duke of Burgundy
Well this looks interesting... and not just in a pervy sexy way either.
Trailer Time: Alien Outpost
I don't know, low budget-ish Sci-Fi military movies are usually best described by that first sentence...
The Info Zombie - Episode 93: HolidayCheer
If you are Mega Rich or Wal-Mart poor, you will get a kick out of tis episode.
Review: Oddly Normal #4
I pretty much want to ditto want Nick has said so long about this series; it is awesome! With each issue comes a section of fan letters, and you can really tell that a lot of young girls have gotten into comics with this series alone.
Review: The Activity #16
Oh how I wish this issue had released sooner. I know the creative team was working on the Punisher for Marvel (a series I still have read), but if this issue had released just after the fifteenth issue it would have been an amazing ending to the story.
Review: Criminal Macabre – The Third Child #4
Along the way with my reviews for this series I said something to the extent of, “where does the story possibly go from here?” The answer is of course a resounding “don’t know, don’t care, I’ll be there for it”, but I find it to be an interesting exercise in storytelling for Niles to be able to tell this powerful of a story.
Review: Captain Stone #1
Captain Stone is missing, much like this title should be missing from your pull list.
Review: The Death-Defying Doctor Mirage #4
The thing I’ve come to love about comic books is that you can read ten comics in one week and they’ll all be completely different from one another, but each great in its own way. For instance take Doctor Mirage which has a sliver of the superhero genre as inspiration, but mostly resides in the supernatural adventure genre.
Review: Wytches #3
Wytches is a comic that keeps on getting better, and for a series that started out as good as it was right out of the gates, that’s certainly saying something.
Review: San Hannibal #5
This might just be my favorite story I’ve read this year which is hard for me to actually say. I’ve read a lot of good titles this year and currently I’m struggling back and forth about what to put at the top of that list. The thing that San Hannibal has going for it, is a rewarding ending to a mystery.
