Review: Vampirella #10
The corner has been turned and we are fast approaching the conclusion of the current story arc in which Vampirella, representing the Kabal, a secretive organization of supernatural beings who work tirelessly to keep those mystical creatures of the night under wraps, is on the hunt to capture and contain three conspirators cursed with immortality who are working to put upon an end to the human race and possibly to bring about an end to their immortality as well.
Review: Casanova: Acedia #2
For a guy who works on multiple projects simultaneously, it’s infuriatingly impressive how gracefully Matt Fractions moves between genres.
Review: Love Stage!! Vol. 1
When I picked up Love Stage!! For review I thought it was just going to be some love-dovey story. Honestly it was the fact that it was a first volume and I wouldn’t have to research anything that really got me to pick it up (though research would have helped).
Review: Conspiracy Girl
Conspiracy Girl is an interesting short story. It’s geared towards a younger audience and it’s definitely more novel than graphic novel, but I enjoyed it. It’s weird and I dig weird.
Review: Assassination Classroom Vol. 3
This is actually the first time I’ve read Assassination Classroom. I’ve been following the anime series which is currently airing and I figured I knew enough from the show to be able to jump over to the manga.
Review: Big Trouble in Little China #9
I knew it was too good to last. Any time something gets brought back from your childhood, it rarely goes well.
Review: X #23 (Dark Horse)
In the wake of last month’s destructive issue, we’re left with part of X’s precious city destroyed. This issue X is back with a vengeance as his troubles increase when another threat presents itself: a gang known as Swine Revolution.
Review: Teen Dog #7 (BOOM! Box)
Dude, did you know that there is only one more issue left of the radest comic ever?! Well yeah there is. I don’t know how I have lived so long without Teen Dog in my life.
Review: Escape From New York #4
To say that this series is bad is an understatement. It went from milking cool moments from the movie and turning them into cheap jokes, to delivering a story that is so hollow and unoriginal that as a reader I no longer wanted to explore this world.
Review: Southern Cross #1
You are invited to partake in a journey to the Saturn moon of Titan courtesy of The Southern Cross, a super charged tanker with some slight conversions to accommodate for tourists and the like when it's not too busy moving its bubbling crude off of the moon.
Review: King: Flash Gordon #2
Issue 2 does not live up to the promise of issue 1. The potential existed in issue 1 of a really great storyline that got cut short. This is what it got cut short for. Don’t get me wrong it’s an entirely serviceable issue. It kept me interested in the setting and the characters for another month but there’s just not a lot of meat on these bones.
Review: Holy F*ck #3 (Danger Zone)
My first draft of this review had a long rant about the fact that Action Lab books continue to ship back to back and blah, blah, blah. Is that this issue’s fault? No and so I said fuck that noise and started again.
Review: 2000 AD – Prog 1921
"Dark Justice" is over. As much as I praised Staples' artwork, I found this arc of Dredd, for the most part, to be disappointing. I wanted to see this arc explore more of the concepts involved with this spaceship and its society.
Review: Hellbreak #1
The first time I ever read anything by Cullen Bunn it was The Damned from Oni Press. The second time I read anything from Cullen Bunn was The Damned: Prodigal Sons and then The Sixth Gun. Hang tight I’m going somewhere with this. Since then Bunn has gone on to write a lot of comics for the big two and everyone in-between, but the place that he always feels most at home is Oni Press.
Review: Dead Letters #8
For those of us just joining us on the Dead Letters train, things are certainly getting going with a bang, aren’t they? That’s just the way I like it, and Chris Sebela and Chris Visions waste no time digging into this next chapter of their noirish tale of Purgatory.
Review: Postal #2 (Top Cow)
Postal once again comes out on top this week and possibly this even this month. Building off the last issue we learn more about our titular Postal worker as he continues to work on the mystery surrounding the dead body at the end of last issue.
Review: Unity #16 (Valiant)
This arc is starting to reveal itself more with this issue and I’m cool with that. I absolutely loved Unity #15 and the way it focused on Ninjak. Unity #16 continues that course with nearly the same opening, but the difference being that we follow the Eternal Warrior as the trio part this time around.
Review: Headspace #7
Everything comes to a head in this newest installment with Headspace. It definitely felt like the comic was taking us on an intensity trip through Carpenter Cove with our last issue.
Review: Ragnarök #4 (IDW)
Ragnarök is back on the stands after two months with its fourth issue, jam-packed with the adventures of Undead Thor the Stone God, and the many inhabitants of what used to be the Nine Realms, post-Twilight of the Gods.
