Review: The Archies #1

By Justin McCarty

America’s favorite teen garage-band is back in a new ongoing series. The Archies are a hit at their first gig; only Archie has no idea where the band will go from here. The first issue kicks off the story of the band and their aspirations for making it big. If you are an Archie fan, you might not find many complaints with this series. There’s also not much going on here to really get you hooked if you are not. Its plot lacks depth and focuses solely on Archie and his problem. Great artwork makes up for the plot though.

Review: Archie #22

By Dustin Cabeal

I wish that I had written my prediction down for “Over The Edge” because I would impress no one right about now. I still would have guessed correctly, but I think that most anyone that’s been reading Archie regularly and understands bad TV drama could figure this one out from the solicits.

Killer Crossover: Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica

By Dustin Cabeal

Listen... if Betty isn't dressed like Batgirl by the end then this isn't worth it. On a similar note, if Veronica isn't dressed like Huntress... not worth it. Archie can be dressed like Robin and only Robin because there is nothing remotely "Batman" about him. Other than that, I will read this because of Paul Dini all coasts need me.

Review: Archie #21

By Dustin Cabeal

First and foremost, I’m not going to tell you who is the person injured in the drag race that happened in the last issue of Archie. Frankly, when I read the solicit I knew who it would be and I wasn’t wrong. It’s obvious given the trio involved, and only one of those characters would actually “change everything” as they’re billing the next issue.

Review: Riverdale: One-Shot

By Laramie Martinez

Riverdale reads like the T.V. show on which it’s based. Containing four mini stories about the main characters, this one shot does a decent job of portraying each of the characters backgrounds and goals. However, as it serves as only an introductions, these characters aren’t as flushed out as they could have been, most of the time their voices feel “generic high school” with each character representing a cliché of high school movies and shows.

Marvel Teams Up With Archie For Marvel Comics Digest

By Dustin Cabeal

Well that's one way to increase your comic sales. I mean, the direct market is great and all, but I bet you that every publisher would like to add the newsstand market to their market. (Alterna is doing just that so congrats to them on a side note) This is interesting to say the least, obviously not for me and not for most comic readers, but maybe you can hook more little kids or movie goers for a few bucks.

Let's Take A Moment To Appreciate This Nut Shot To Archie

By Dustin Cabeal

By no means am I saying that this cover is "good art" or even "classic", but can we take a moment to just appreciate the fact that something like this is still being made? Let's face it, we all love bad comic art as much as we love good comic art and a few artists have even made their fucking entire career off of bad art. Not that this is bad per se, but Archie is completely stiff and flying nuts first into a tree and somehow he doesn't have to bend his legs or move his hips to do this. And yet it's pretty amazing. It makes me want to see Archie take a tree shot to the nuts and then the rest of the issue they're just in the ER and suddenly it gets heavy as Archie might loose his balls and never have little Archie's running around with Strawberry blonde hair. Yeah, that's right, I got deep and picked a side.
