BOOM! Studios Announces Mouse Guard ABC's Book... Meh
By Dustin Cabeal
There was a time in which I would have found this cool, but since it's been years since any new Mouse Guard stories came out and even longer since one that wasn't a "Tales of the Guard" I can't really pretend to care about this. Maybe if it was a finished work and this was a nice piece for fans, but it seems like a waste of time and money.
Marvel Releases Some Creepy Mary Jane Watson Variant Covers
By Dustin Cabeal
Ew, themed variants! That pays the bills folks. That and when you've run out of iconic covers just go back and mine them over and over again... and then again and again. While I think it's great that MJ is getting some love, most of these covers are creepy looking. I posted comments all over them so enjoy that shit, or not, don't care.

Review: Star Scouts
By Dustin Cabeal
At times Star Scouts is an entertaining read full of imagination and a positive message about being different. Other times, it hits you over the head with its characterizations and paced far too slowly. Star Scouts is obviously aimed at younger kids as the message and outcome of the story are very easy to figure out. This wasn’t a deal breaker, but it did make for a bumpy ride to the end.
Review: Secret Coders vol. 3: Secrets & Sequences
By Dustin Cabeal
After really enjoying the first volume of Secret Coders, I found that my enjoyment for the second volume wasn’t nearly as high. I kept reading though because the cliffhangers are interesting and add to the story rather than just being a cheap gimmick to entice you back.
Review: Iron Fist E.01 – “Snow Gives Way”
By Dustin Cabeal
First and foremost, and I hate even to have to say this in a review, but given the site's reputation for disliking all things Marvel and given the critical reception that I’ve seen online for Iron Fist I will say this: I do not give a hot shit about anyone else’s review. I haven’t read anyone else’s review; I haven’t even read a tweet expressing an opinion about Marvel and Netflix’s newest entry into their weird subdivision of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I feel that I have to say that before starting with this review because the easier answer to everything I’m about to say is, “Oh, he’s just jumping on the bandwagon.” Let’s be clear about one thing, the first episode of Iron Fist is one of the poorest pilots I have seen in the past three years, and I don’t care what any other critic says.
Review: Popova #1
By Ben Boruff
Writers Dre Torres and Alex Valdes are not afraid of difficult tasks. The two creators of Popova, a Tarantino-style comic that "explores the idea of reversing society's gender stereotypes by depicting women in the role of the aggressor," also created a documentary called The Last Taino. Here is the documentary's description as noted on the film's Indiegogo page:
Review: Goodnight Punpun vol. 5
By Dustin Cabeal
Oh Goodnight Punpun, how I’ve missed you. The only thing that’s disappointing about reading Goodnight Punpun is that I can’t find anything else like it to read. Hell, I don’t even necessarily think I want to read anything like it, but it would be nice if there were an option. At the very least, someone could provide an artistic style similar to Inio Asano for all of us to enjoy, but I guess that’s what makes him original.
Review: Master Keaton vol. 10
By Dustin Cabeal
Master Keaton is a difficult series to review. Not because it’s bad and not because it’s complex, but because it would be a bit like reviewing every episode of a procedural show that’s solving a different case every episode. In many ways, that’s exactly what Master Keaton is doing, solving cases every episode.
Review: ēlDLIVE E.01
By Shanel Kamara
I had no idea that elDLIVE was by the same creator of Katekyo Hitman Reborn; Katekyo Hitman Reborn is a personal favorite of mine, and it’s definitely in my top three shonen series after Hunter x Hunter 2011 simply because of its great combination of humor and artwork. The show aired in 2006, and admittedly, this is the fourth of fifth time I have re-watched the entire series. Therefore, I just had to check elDLIVE out. Akira Amano was not only responsible for the production of Katekyo Hitman Reborn, but she also did the original character design of Psycho-Pass; I was unaware of this fact until recently.
Titan Reveals "The Lost Fleet: Corsair #1"

Kill The Minotaur From Skybound/Image
Famed video game and film writers Chris Pasetto (Sanitarium, co-writer of feature film Air) and Christian Cantamessa (Red Dead Redemption, co-writer and director of Air) team up with comics artist Lukas Ketner (WITCH DOCTOR) for the all-new series KILL THE MINOTAUR, coming this June from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment.
DC's Getting Dark In Dark Days
By Dustin Cabeal
Hmm, did DC just recover from going too dark with the New 52? I mean, unlike Marvel, they have great villains when used properly, so they never need to go that dark. That's what always made them stand out from Marvel. Marvel had to go dark with their title because all their villains sucked. We'll see if this pays off, but given who's in charge of it and who's illustrating it, it just seems like a typical event book that will find itself on a "why did they do this list" in five years.

Review: Death Be Damned #2
By Laramie Martinez
After reading the first issue I thought I knew what kind of story Death be Damned was going to be. And despite a warning from Andrew Miller over on Twitter, I went into issue two thinking that I was going to get more of the same. And while there was plenty of zombies and shootouts, there are some key revelations which take this series to another level of uncanny.
Review: Paper Crown
By Ben Boruff
Deep below the colorful lithosphere of indie comics lies a core of melancholy, aphoristic, and often minimalistic comics that explore the more nuanced elements of loneliness, solitude, and longing. Occasionally, these comics bubble to the surface of the indie comic zeitgeist, but more often they remain hidden, churning below the consciousness of casual fans. I call this subgenre of indie comics "epigrammatic gloom," and it is oddly refreshing. Comics of the "epigrammatic gloom" genre eschew the usual dressings of intricate plot, and they favor the power of artwork over the power of dialogue. Like the beginning of Up and the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, an "epigrammatic gloom" comic allows visuals to lift the weight of the story's emotional elements, and this tactic is almost always effective. Without the burden of dialogue, panels are able to burn with color, and background artwork—often vast and simple to enhance the protagonist's isolation—is not obstructed by overbearing bubbles and squares. Claire Connelly’s clever comics contain copious amounts of this molten melancholy, and Paper Crown is among the best of Connelly’s impressive work.
Preview: Godshaper #1 and More Covers
By Dustin Cabeal
I couldn't care less about the covers, but I'm enjoying getting a look inside the comic. I wonder who is coloring it as it looks a lot like the color on Daniel Bayliss' art for BOOM! Even without the lettering I'm digging what the story is presenting and can't wait to check this one out.
Gonna Play The Fuck Out Of The New Scott Pilgrim Card Game
By Dustin Cabeal
Fucking finally a card game that really hits me in the nerdom. Magic, pass. Pokemon, meh. Yug-oh, can't even spell it right. Marvel and DC ones that suck, big pass. Scott Pilgrim, though, that rubs my nips in a calming clockwise motion. Yeah... I'll be getting this.
