Review: Tokyo Ghoul √A – Ep. 1-4
I’ll be the first to say that I don’t really know what the hell is going on with this season of Tokyo Ghoul. I love the first season even though it ended really awkwardly. When I heard they followed the new trend of renaming the second season, I was just happy that there would be a second season.
Review: Assassination Classroom – Ep. 1-3
Having never read the manga version of Assassination Classroom, I found this selection to be the most curious. I refrained from reading the manga (mostly because I knew I’d never have the time) and waited for the anime.
Review: World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman – Ep. 1
Sometimes I wonder if I’m better off titling these reviews by their Japanese names. It could be my old school nature to call animes by their English titles because that’s what I’m accustomed to having been one of the many that can remember anime on VHS and swapping tapes.
Review: Absolute Duo Ep. 1-4
New anime season is in full effect, but whereas the fall season offered a lot of new shows that I was dying to check out, the winter season has been a collection of shows that are really average or a shining star. Unfortunately Absolute Duo is very average.
Review: Gone Girl (Blu-Ray)
Having missed the initial theatrical release of Gone Girl I was excited to check out the movie on Blu-ray. Luckily, Fox helped me out with that by sending me a copy of the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Download combo. Yes the holy trinity of home movie ownership.
Review: Flash Gordon #8
Flash Gordon #8 looked like the end to the story arc. Everyone is back home and treated like heroes. For all the crew it seemed that the notoriety and success was coming their way. Each member was given a special position in government and they were treated like heroes for coming back to earth. It all seemed to be great and coming to a nice close.
Review: Sundowners #6
Talk about some character progression? Ok, I will. While Sundowners has so far vacillated between intriguing and frustrating on almost an issue-by-issue basis, it definitely can’t be faulted for a lack of character development. Between the premiere and the end of this first arc, many of the characters have gone through significant growth that often takes other comics years to accomplish.
Review: Casanova: Acedia #1
I’ve been having more and more conversations recently about comics with people who don’t read comics. What strikes me about these conversations isn’t what the other person typically says about comics (they’re for children, they’re sexists, they’re not as literary as other mediums), but my response to these people. Often, I’ll point to certain comics I have in my literary holster, and make some argument about how they function as high art (See me talking about Jimmy Corrigan and page layout, Ant Colony and existentialism, All-Star Superman and myth, etc.).
Interview With Des Taylor Creator/Writer & Artist of Scarlett Couture
This week I had the chance to talk to Des Taylor about his new creator owned series launching in April from Titan Comics.
Interview With Douglas Monce from Atomic Age Pictures
Creator and Director Douglas Monce is the award winning director of such films as The Pinup and the Poltergeist, Her Big Night, and the black and white film noir Blackout. Working in the film industry for over 20 years, Douglas is also an experienced director of photography, having photographed such projects as the steampunk web series Mantecoza. Douglas’ film credits include The Quick and the Dead, Fear, The Secret Agent Club, and Sworn to Justice.
Full Clueless Gamer Super Bowl Mortal Kombat X Edition
It's worth watching just for their reactions to the over the top gore to Mortal Kombat X... I can't wait for the parents groups to get a hold of this one it's going to make the 90s look meek.
Review: Alien Outpost
Usually I like to lead the reader on with a review saving my end all be all thoughts about the material being reviewed, until the very end. I’m not going to do that with Alien Outpost; the reason is so that you can finish the review and understand why when I say, “it’s pretty good”, it doesn’t come off as overly simplistic or me shying away from a seemingly hard review.
Review: The Unwritten: Apocalypse #12
I hope someday I’m smart enough to love Unwritten: Apocalypse. Perhaps it’ll happen if I ever get around to reading all the literary texts and theory that it alludes to, as well as the bulk of the preceding main comic, which has been on my to-read list since finishing volume two and recognizing that someday I’d want to have the series in beautiful leather-bound hardcovers ala Ron Burgundy, and “Eww, do I hate these cheaply made trades.”
Review: They’re Not Like Us #2
Let me just out myself first. I really like Eric Stephenson. When Nowhere Men was all that anyone seemed to talk about (anyone who reads comics as often as I do, at least), I said “Nu-uh, ain’t gonna fall for the hype” and reread Y: The Last Man for the fifth time instead.
Review: Justice League: Throne of Atlantis
Whenever I am asked who makes the best movies Marvel or DC? I have always replied that Marvel has the live action down while DC seems to have the animation locked in solid. This has been my opinion for several years and I believe that this has been the norm for awhile.
Review: The Flash 1.11 – The Sound and The Fury
This episode we finally get to meet probably the lamest of all Flash villains: The Pied Piper. To their credit they took an elf-y looking dude wielding a flute and managed to pull something badass out of it.
Review: Agent Carter 1.4 – The Blitzkrieg Button
So far this has been the most solid hour of television that’s come from Agent Carter. This is the episode I’d show people who may have missed out until now. This is what I’d show people to win them over. It’s a well-balanced hour, the acting is good, there’s equal action and characterization and there’s equal comedy and drama.
Interview: Death Saves Anthology Creators
Death Saves: Fallen Heroes of the Kitchen Table is already fully funded and successful on Kickstarter, but we have an interview with a few of the creators that helped on the series. First is SM Vidaurri talking about "Destiny", followed by Kevin Budnik talking about "Crit Fail" and lastly Matthew Blake with his tale "Roll Vs. Dungeon Master." If you're interested in the project (you should be) then head over to kickstarter where there's still plenty of time to take advantage of the rewards and check out the projects stretch goals!
Avengers Assemble Adds The Dark Avengers... I'm Sure That Won't Confuse Kids At All (Video)
I love how the Disney XD Marvel cartoons take all these great comic ideas and cram them into one crappy episode. Here's a a complex storyline... let's just make it a 26 minute cartoon about an alternate universe. On top of that it's not even the read Dark Avengers... balls.
